I was wondering if anyone knows much about the Daith piercing for migraines? Specifically, if the piercing is rumoured to work because it acts on acupuncture trigger points, would this suggest that if acupuncture doesn't work on you that the piercing won't either? Acupuncture has no affect on me.
Cheers,

Unfortunately there is no data on the success rate, only anecdotes from people who've had it done and from body mod shops. A number of people who have had it done report it didn't work for them. With no way currently to estimate the success rate, the only way to know is to try it. It's too new, and I'm willing to wait longer for more information to be compiled, personally.
I think if it was very expensive I'd be more worried. I had been trying to get Botox for about 10 years. Until the Nice guidance come out I couldn't get it on the NHS, it would have cost me about £2000 to get it privately and there was no way I could raise that kind of money for something so uncertain!
Accupuncture didn't work for me either , well not as a preventative anyway, my body did use it as pain relief if I had a migraine at the time of my appointment. I have had the daith piercing done the week before Christmas and I have seen a very big improvement in my migraines. I don't mind that it could be a placebo effect, it cost me £15, and has enabled me to lead a very different life. Surely if I am not swallowing tons of medication it can only be a good thing! Everyone of us is different , I would say it has got to be worth a try!
Interesting..... I have a couple of piercings anyway so it wouldn't be a great leap to get another one.
Did you get it on a particular side? My migraines move continuously. To be honest I'll still be having Botox and taking Amitriptyline, I'm also having some other injections in my neck that are different from Botox but with all this I still get migraines 50% of the time so I'm wiling try anything.
Also did you have to find a piercer who knew about migraines and the placement of the piercings?
I had mine done on my right side as the majority of my migraines are on that side, you are supposed to get it done on the most affected side. I guess if yours move around you maybe better to have both sides done. Check with your piercer about having both done, they may recommend letting one heal first then returning to get the second one done. I went to a tattoo place locally that I know well and took a photograph I printed off the Internet in to ensure correct placement. There was no need as she had lots of people going in to get it done , for the relief of migraines! ! I also take 50mg amitriptyline each night and am awaiting botox and as I have a prolapse disc in my neck I am also waiting for steroid injections!
I think when you continually suffer you are desperate to try most things. I felt that if it didn't work there was no harm done, compared to hurrendous side effects from various meds!
Hi I had the daith piercing done about 3 months ago and I can honestly say it has helped my migraines. Although I still get them, they are no where near as severe or as after as they were. After the piercing I went 3 weeks without one at all. As with everything some things work for some and not for others. I would definitely go ahead and have it done as you have nothing to lose. If you like the piercing you can get really nice jewellery otherwise like me you can have a very discreet bar. I no some people who have never had a migraine again. Good luck
Tell your mum I'm 63 and certainly didn't want to look like an aging hippy. It's so discreet you can't see it unless your really looking. To be honest my migraines were so bad they could have pierced my nose or brain if I thought it would ease them. I am on a fraction of painkillers now than I was
