I am new on this forum. I am wondering if there are any other sufferers of Vertigo Migraine. I have been recently diagnosed with Acephalic Vertigo Migraine along with Visual Vertigo and Vestibular tone imbalance. My condition is really quite severe with symptoms of dizziness and being out of balance and discoordination, along with being extremely spaced out pretty much present in my life 24/7.
I am due to start physiotherapy in the next couple of weeks to help with the condition. I have also recently been prescribed Amitriptyline for the Vertigo Migraine, I am just wondering if anyone else has been prescribed this drug for this particular condition and if so has it helped. It says that it is used for pain, the thing is my vertigo migraine doesn't contain any pain just symptoms of vertigo and dizziness.
I would also be interested in finding out what other treatments others have tried that have helped with this condition. Any feedback and advice is much appreciated.
Hi I symathise I was diagnosed with migraine associated vertigo a few years ago. I have spells of being off balance which have lasted from 3 to 6 months then complete remission. They usuallly come on in the winter and during my period when hormones are low. I get headaches each month too. Have you tried cutting out chocolate, cheese, citrus fruits, caffeine and msg? I also gave up gluten a year ago for other reasons. Id say my health has improved since improving diet. Ive had a spell this year but symptoms are a lot less severe. I believe norytryptiline is prescribed for mav and people do well on it. Im not on anything though although have tried but would rather live with symptomd I am than side effects. I hope you get some relief soon.
Thank you for your response. I have made some changes to my diet and continue to do so. I am also looking at various exercises that may help and hopefully the physio will offer some relief. I am a bit like you, I am worried about taking the amytriptyline because of the side effects but my symptoms are becoming more severe so I am at a bit of a loss with what to do.
Hi. I was prescribed amitriptyline last year. The first month I thought there was no way I could continue with them as I was constantly tired and spaced out. After a month my body seemed to adapt and although I did sleep a lot more the pain did get better however my mind/ memory was affected and I was like someone with the onset of dementia. I took them for 9 months then the pain started to come through that's when I was referred to the neurologist he told me to stop all medication. My migraines have worsened and are caused by neck muscle tension. I am due to start accupunture on Friday and after 3 private sessions am quite hopeful. The only drug that really works for me is imigran but you shouldn't take more than 2 a week. Good luck. Let us know how you get on
I have been having acupuncture for about 6 months for Migraine Associated Vertigo together with various drugs including amitriptyline, and the only thing that helped was acupuncture. Good luck hope it works for you.
