New Migraines

Hi, I'm new to this forum, but basically I am 21 and have never suffered from migraines before, and have recently had two pretty nasty ones (auras and all) in the space of two weeks, with intermittent short sharp headaches inbetween. I was wondering if I should be going to the doctor? Or is this just some sort of 'phase'?

My migraines with arua intensified when i was 21. They never really subsided since then. I used to get one every 6 months or so then it went to one every week now its around one ever 3-4 months. When ever i have a feeling one is coming on i pop a couple aspirin. I always wanted to schedule a doctor's app for them but never really gotten around to it. Migraines are not normal. Yes many people have them, but its never wrong to go see a doctor.

There are a lot of conditions that can cause migraine type headaches - eg B12 deficiency, Hughes Syndrome etc so definitely worth going to see the doctor ... though they may not have much knowledge of the conditions that can cause migraines

This is a link to a check list of symptoms of B12 just in case anything else rings a bell.

However, also have to warn you that there are a lot of misconceptions amongst GPs about B12 deficiency (eg its a form of anaemia) so it can be really difficult to get them to listen - also the test that is done isn't a particularly good guide to deficiency and really needs to be backed up by looking at other factors if results come in below 450-500

Hey Becky, generally speaking you do not need to see your doctor for the occasional migraine. I followed a guideline that says if you take pain killers for more than 15 days of the month then you should see a doctor because that can lead to all sorts of problems with your stomach as well as pain killer induced migraines etc. Also, if you've had an accident or if you have an other symptoms it would be worth seeing a doctor as well, because you might have secondary migraine, i.e. a migraine that is induced by another physical cause. Hope this helps.
