I have just started Amitryptaline and it is so far helping me to find some peace of mind and also helpiing with my migraines. I am sorry to read that so many people gain weight from using it. I am 55kgs and so far seem to be fine. I have not felt hungry or needing more to eat. I hope that is encouraging to others out there that are starting it. I am on 25mg.
I,m pleased you have found something that works for you. Amytryptiline is on my list but I,m trying everything else as I,m quite scared of taking drugs.are you getting any side effects?
I've already read most of "The Migraine Revolution" and (apart from disliking the cynical and flippant style of writing) I'm left wondering whether this is real science or pseudo-science - i.e. conclusions based on faulty scientific procedures or drawing incorrect conclusions from reliable scientific discoveries. I'd be interested to know what Dr. Elrington thinks of it!
Hi John, the book has helped me more than anything else i,ve tried.I,ve had to do put in some work but have reduced my migraine attacks in severity and frequency without taking any drugs so that's a bonus or me. My next step is neurotherapy which I,m hoping will improve further. (if not see them off!)
I,ve spoken to the author many times on Facebook and the humour is supposed to be tongue in cheek but does highlight how 'brainwashed' we are into thinking we have to live with migraine disorder and rely on drugs forever as there's no other solution.
I know we,ve spoken before and you,ve tried everything going so if you,re interested in what I,ve done so far I,m more than happy to share.
Hi Julia. Yours is the only recommendation I've read so I'm very doubtful about this "revolution". To try all of the options listed on pages 427 and 428 of the book is totally ridiculous particularly as I score 27 using his "determining the needs" formula. The only UK neurotherapist listed on his website seems not to be practising any more (or not supporting his ideas) but, as a retiree, there's no way that I can afford a therapist. My nearest therapist charges what she describes as an "average" $140 (£85) a session. I've been doing slow abdominal breathing twice a day for six months. No effect. I've being doing aerobic exercise for years but recently, (three years ago!) it began to trigger migraines.
As a 76 year old, I don't have time to mess about with revolutionary theories. I need relief fast. This week, I'm getting occipital nerve block injections. At least, in this respect, I'm trying to be positive.
Hi John, I realise I,m in the minority and Martins Approach is very different to mainstream medicine and this is one of the reasons i posted, to give others another option. With drug therapies only giving us 40-50% reduction (if lucky) I had to try it and glad that I did.
You will see a lot of support on his Facebook page but like you say, this approach does mean spending money which not everyone can afford.
I am going to pursue the neurotherapy and will let you know if it helps me as you may change your mind?
Good luck with your injections I hope they help!
