Migraine & Blood Thinners

Hello All,

I have recently found out that my replacement aortic valve which I had fitted in 2017 is not performing well. The cardiologist I have seen says this is possibly due to a clot over the valve and has put me on Apixaban which I tolerated for one week having had four classic migraines with aura whilst taking it. I contacted my doctor who emailed the cardiologist who then prescribed Dabigatran (Pradaxa). Having taken this yesterday for the first time it seems to have exactly the same if not worse reaction and it woke me in the early hours of this morning after which I found it almost impossible to get back to sleep. I also noticed that the Apixaban would trouble me with migraine mostly whilst I was in bed, again causing me to lose a lot of sleep.

After my operation nearly 4 years ago I experienced migraine aura mostly without any pain for nearly all of the four years until it finally stopped in July 2021.. In all I had nearly 240 episodes and I was delighted when they appeared to come to an end.

I am wondering if anyone else has had problems with blood thinners in this respect. I am also on Losartan 50g and Ezemitibe (a statin substitute) and those two on their own didn't cause me any problems.

Any comments would be gratefully received.

Best wishes,

Uppercombe
