How to come of beta blockers (propranolol)

Has anyone else stopped taking beta blockers for migraine? I've taken them for two years and they work well for migraine prevention but I can't face another winter on them. When I reduce the dose I tend to get a thumping heart and raised pulse rate ... as well as a migraine. GP has been no help with suggesting how/when to reduce.
