CITALOPRAM and sexual interaction sideeffect

Hi, I've been on citalopram for 5 months, increasing my dosage from 10mg to 20mg last month.

I haven't had many adverse side effects and overall the medication seems to have positive effects on my mood and anxiety.

However, I have noticed some sexual related issues that have occurred more frequently over the last 5 months. I have found it increasly difficult to ejaculate during sexual intercourse, or masturbating.

I have a regual monthly call with a MH practioner from the GP surgery who says this can happen and sometimes the side effects reduce or goes away over time.

As anyone else on citalopram experienced such issues and did they eventually lessen or go away?

The MH practioner suggests we review in a month's time and maybe move to a different AD medication. What alternative medication have others moved to, who have experienced similar issues and have they worked to remove this side effect?

Thanks

Alot of antidepressants mess with your sex drive and other things related...I'm on Mirtazapine and I noticed things ain't the same when it come's to sex related stuff. So unless someone up in here knows of a medication you can take with antidepressants to counter act this, I would like to know? then you either have to come off them meds or change them or take the hit when it comes to the sex stuff and certain antidepressants!!!

Some Drs may add in bupropion alongside the antidepressant to counteract sexual side effects. I lost my sexual function thanks to an SSRI a decade ago. It never came back. A psychiatrist told me this was impossible and put me on bupropion but it didn't work. Years later, I got diagnosed with PSSD which is incurable. It's disgusting that Drs don't warn people.

Sorry to hear about your problems...I'll look into Bupropion medication with my Doctor to see if it's possible...many thanks and hang in there.

I thought the sexual side effects of the SSRI would disappear once I stopped taking it. 10years later, my genitals are numb and I still have no libido. Nobody warned me about this and denied it was possible when it happened. I now have a diagnosis of PSSD (post-SSRI sexual dysfunction). There is no treatment or cure.
