I think you would need to talk to your GP about this but all AD's will help with chronic pain as they block the pain receptors in the body (or that is what my pyschiatrist told me anyway and I think they do help). I am on cipramil (citralopam) and I have not gained any weight but others on this med have so it will all depend on how you react to the med but there may be some where weight gain is rarely reported and your doctor could advise about this.

I was on 10mg of Citalopram for several years and came off it in November 2013, since then i have not been sleeping and somedays feel quite down. I came off them because i was having missed heart beats. How does it affect you and how long have you been taking them? I pop on and off here all the time and you are always giving help and information, you seem an extremely nice person!

Cymbalta which is an antidepressant helps with pain. Really your doctor

Would be the best person to ask. There are new drugs coming on stream

All the time.

there are certainly some antidepressants that help with pain but whether they lead to weight gain is less clear, why not google pain relief and antidepressants? I have fibromyalgia and find a low dose of antidepressants (citalopram) helps with the pain from that but I am reluctant to go on heavier painkilling antidepressants even though they may help, because the long term side effects can be bad and it can be difficult to wean off them. Why not talk with the specialist who would deal with the cause of your pain or ask to be referred to a pain clinic? Suex

Amitriptyline made me sleep like a log but over the years I got too used to it and gradually had to increase to 75mgs so as to keep me sleeping like a log. The down side was the weight gain and the craving for sweets and crisps, well just always having the munchies really. After 8 years I came off it with help from supplements prescribed by a nutritionalist. Strangely enough I had never succeeded in come off them before her approach. I lost 2 stone partly thru dieting but also thru loosing the cravings and cooking from scratch, no jars or processed rubbish. However, I've just had 18 months fighting the need for some form of medication and eventually gave in two months ago and started on Trazadone 50 mgs. So far no side effects but just recently I've not been sleeping as well as I was so am seeing my GP again. I suspect he will up the dose and I will sleep better but I do wonder if this is just the way it is with anti depressants, upping the dose all the time. For me the pain is always better if I get my sleep so obviously I'm suffering a bit at the moment. Hope that helps but few people on here seem to be on Trazadone it seems so I don't know how others find it.
