Hi All, I’m new to this group, I was diagnosed with BPH , started taking Alfuzosin 2.5mg , the urologist said I should increase up to 7.5mg if I can tolerate it, thing is he never told me if I should take it as a complete dose 3 tablets at once or spread morning , noon and night . Also would that be 7.5mg in the morning or last thing at night , I’m not due for a telephone app for another 3 weeks , side effects I am getting is headaches , a bit dizzy and stomach upset , also should you take this med with food. Can’t believe I haven’t been told these straight forward things , the sticker on the box says once daily but I was only on one tablet then 2.5mg , now I am on 3 . Confused any help would be appreciated 👍.

If you are on 3 tablets they should be spread out over the day. Please see the attached: medicines.org.uk/emc/produc...

Thanks for that , looks like I am taking it correctly after all . 1 - 3x a day with food , not very happy with the side effects I hope they calm down or I can see me trying something else , or taking the surgical route , cheers for the reply

What side effects are bothering you?

Headache , upset stomach , dizzy at times , very dry mouth. Checked my BP it’s actually slightly high on systolic side rather then the expected low .

I also take a low dose of ( gastro resistant ) prednisolone for another condition but I didn’t have these symptoms till I started Alfuzosin

Similar to me. I’m on Tamsulosin. Upsets my sleep too.

Me to 😩

I am on tamsulosin and tolerate it well. There are a number of alpha blockers you could try. You might also try the next step - a 5 alpha reductase inhibitor - before considering surgery. webmd.com/men/prostate-enla...

Why don’t you ask your pharmacist?

I plan to later today , just thought I would ask on here before I got the chance to see them .

Best wishes. My experience with pharmacists has always been very positive they tend to spend more time discussing what the drugs actually do.
