Hi lornayale123. I notice you give no personal experience of yourself having had meningitis or that of a close family member. I also see from your profile you previously were asking multiple questions but no profile. Is your needs for info because you are a student?? If so I am sure if you contact the Meningitis Trust they will give you all the info you require. Personally I find having my inbox clogged up with one way questions off putting whereas most often this site is used by meningitis sufferers or their families for mutual support, info and understanding. So essential if you are recovering from the nasty meningitis as it can be so isolating and difficult for non meningitis sufferers to understand. If your reluctance to say anything about yourself and you are a meningitis sufferer then I am sorry and accept my apopogies if I have jumped to the wrong conclusion, but please please do and try to say more about yourself and put your questions in one blog and I am sure the responses will fly back and be very supportive.

Hello,

Meningitis can be caused by a number of different organisms. We do have vaccines available in the UK for some types of organisms that can cause meningitis, and this is the only way of preventing meningitis. You can read about the available vaccines here at this link

meningitis-trust.org/mening...

If you would like more information about vaccines, please do feel free to speak to us on our 24 hr helpline on 0808 8010 388.

Kind Regards,

Judith

Meningitus is the inflamation of the brain lining. So it is like asking can I prevent getting a sore foot.

The inflamation is caused by either a Bacteria, a Virus or a Fungus. My Meningitus was caused by a Virus, the Shingles virus as I has shingles at the same time. How do you prevent geting shingles? If you have ever had chicken Pox then the shingles virus lays dormant inside you and in 1/3 of people it will come out later in life as shingles. If the shingles is really bad it can get into your meninges thus, Viral Meningitus.

Hope that helps.
