Cold sore .. herpes virus .. fever blisters ? They are little spots / blisters usually found on the face , lips , nose ... part of the herpes virus that caused my meningitis
I had shingles few years ago and that’s the herpes virus that causes these blisters on the face , we call cold sores
Yes I understand what cold sores are and the virus they come from. Your post says coldsaw twice so I wasn’t sure if coldsaw was a term for something else. Regarding your posts, herpes is one of the most common viruses in the world with an enormous number of people having it. Meningitis is rare and having herpes cause meningitis is even more rare. I had meningitis from shingles which is also a herpes virus. What I’m ultimately saying is that it is likely for all the same reasons it is likely for anyone else that you will have outbreaks many many more times in your life that having nothing to do with and will not cause meningitis. In fact, you are far more likely never to get meningitis ever again in your life than to get it again. I know that’s hard to imagine when we have been among the few unlucky people to get meningitis’s and it’s normal to fear getting it again. And, some people do get it again (some people even numerous times) but the odds are like winning the lottery multiple times in a row. You will get flus, colds, etc just like anyone else that will make you feel crappy and sometimes similar symptoms to how meningitis started but they are more likely never to be meningitis. Worrying will not make it or make it not meningitis. If it becomes debilitating, the only thing to do is to have a spinal to confirm.
Yes it’s all scary. The anxiety can be difficult. Over time it will ease and you’ll know they are just colds and are normal for everyone. Hopefully you’ll never have meningitis again. Just FYI, the herpes virus that causes cold sores is not the same herpes virus that causes shingles.
Just another FYI in case it helps you: since shingles and cold sores are both from the herpes “family” but not from the same herpes virus, your meningitis would have been caused by one or the other, not both. To be even more exact, it is generally first a depletion of the immune system that makes the lining of the meninges more permeable, then a virus that was already there can penetrate. The reason I tell you this is, if your lumbar puncture showed shingles for example, then your cold sore would not have been related to the meningitis outbreak nor would your current cold sore be a sign that you could have meningitis again. If your cold sore herpes virus was what was found in the lumbar puncture, then having had shingles was not related to the meningitis. If somehow in this universe you were one in a bizzilion quadrillion people who had both in the lumbar, which is almost unheard of, then you should absolutely start playing the lottery today!
Well what I mean is that there are several herpes viruses. Herpes is a family of viruses. It may not be the same one that is causing the cold sores. They’d have to tell you which herpes and whether it’s the same one. No matter what, cold sores are EXTREMELY common and will continue to happen without meningitis.
