Oh you poor thing. I have lost an older sibling but not to meningitis. Sad to say but I am sure you will find someone on here that has. May i ask how old your sister was? Be very kind to yourself & in time it will become easier.

She was 36. It was so quick. She died at home. Her husband had to perform cpr on her and she died in his arms. At the minute feel there is so little help for what my family are going through. Have so many questions. So sorry for your loss.xxx

So sorry for your loss. I can only imagine the pain you must feel. My mum is heartbroken and I am trying so hard to help her but am grieving myself. As a mother myself to lose a child must be the worse pain ever. I have so many questions, why her? How come she couldn't fight it when others survive? How did she catch it? The list goes on. Are you getting any help for your grief.xxx

Hi Vbev, I'm so sorry to hear your family lost your beautiful, 36 year young sister. Meningitis, especially the bacterial kind that your sister had, is a terrible thing and it, unfortunately, can result in very unforeseen & quickly deteriorating or rapid onset, in many cases resulting with permanent side effects or death. I lost my mum to pneumiccocal meningitis in 2015. She was not only my mum but my best friend. We did almost everything together. Her passing was also extremely sudden and so I do know how shocking dealing with a meningitis death can be. I found it hard to discuss with people in general, as most people had no knowledge of meningitis or knew little about it. It's good that you have reached out. There are meningitis support centres who may be able to answer any questions you may have, depending on where you live. Please take care of yourself and don't feel guilty (if you do), there is nothing you could have done differently. Xx

So sorry to hear about your mum. It must have been and still is no doubt a horrible time for you. I have so many what ifs .....what if I had phoned her on the Wednesday would I have recognised the symptoms and could I have saved her. The thing is she didn't have the classic symptoms . She had flu like symptoms with diarrhoea and vomiting, no stiff neck no rash etc. She even went to work on the Friday morning but got sent home because of the D and V. She went to bed Friday night, her husband kept checking on her and she was sleeping. She woke at 1am Saturday feeling worse and with 20 minutes she had died. The only comfort I can feel is that she was with someone she loved and who loved her and was at home. I will never know if she suffered,I like to think she didn't because her passing was so quick.xxx

I am so sorry to hear about your sister. I would guess that your post has left many of us wondering why we lived, when so many don't. Meningitis is a nasty, horrible sickness. It doesn't discriminate. It takes the very young, the very old, and all in between. There is no rhyme or reason.

From my own experience, without having typical symptoms either, I quickly fell into a state of semi-consciousness and wasn't aware of anything going on around me for the next two weeks. I can say with a degree of certainty that your sister did not suffer. Please rest easy knowing that she was surrounded by her husband's love. My condolences to your family.

It's just so sad for her she had so much to live for. You are right the infection doesn't descriminate. My son came through viral meningitis with septicaemia when he was 5,with no complications, which I am forever grateful for. Thank you for your kind words.xxx
