Grade 2 meningioma

Hello , has anyone had any luck with dvla changing their rules on not been able to drive for 12 months following a grade 2 meningioma .

I had mine removed in March 2024 , I have had two clear scans with no sign of any regrowth and my neurosurgeon said he can see no reason why I shouldn’t be allowed to drive again and he would be willing to write to the dvla medical board.

I have had no seizures before or after my operation and I’m not on any anti seizure meds. Had this been a grade 1 I would of been allowed to drive from the end of this month, 6 months.

I surrendered my driving licence when I had my operation. I have emailed dvla beginning of august but heard nothing so I phoned them last week and was told there is nothing on their screen to tell me !

I also had a Grade 2 but had my first seizure after surgery. My Neurosurgeon told me before I was discharged even if I hadn’t had a seizure it would have still been 12 months of not being allowed to drive. It is with a try if your surgeon is happy to write to them. I hope you get driving soon.

update , dvla are sticking to their guns and saying it’s 12 months for a grade 2 meningioma after craniotomy . Theyve also said if I need to have radiotherapy then the 12 months driving ban starts again from when the treatment finishes . I am 8 months into my 1 year at the moment . Just feel it’s very unfair how they make there decisions etc as my neurosurgeon says he can see no reason why I wouldn’t be safe to drive .

Hi I had my op on 9/11/23 and got my licence back on 1/11/24 after a number of tries, it appears it's the DVLA that decides not the drs/consultants. I hope you get it back soon
