Bespoke advice

Hello. My son is 14. His school is OK for now, but the local post 19 offer is not great. We think that the best option for him long term will be living in supported accommodation, but we don't really know how to get there. Our local council has no money and will fight that.

So we're looking for someone to give us really detailed, bespoke advice on our options. Should we move to another area, should we try to buy a property for our son to live in, how do we approach it? We are happy to pay for this.

But we're not sure who we can ask. Does Mencap offer this sort of service? (we're not looking for general advice but bespoke advice, and someone who can hold our hand and advocate for us through the journey) If not, do solicitors or other groups?

Wondering if anyone knows who we could turn to?

Thanks in advance

Sorry I can't answer your question but just to mention to Google natspec for a list of residential specialist colleges as another option to supported living. A college environment will promote independence and further education prior to long-term supported living. If he has EHCP this will end once he leaves education. You might want to keep it in force for as long as possible, potentially up to age 25. The LA will try to persuade you to relinquish it. Checkout IPSEA also for advice on EHCPs and applying for further education.

My advice from experience.

If you can afford to buy a property do that. That way you are still in control of your son’s needs & life.
