My uncle age 56 Downs Syndrome, Learning Difficulties, early start of Dementia. We can no longer meet his needs at home. He is full of fun, loves dancing, singing, a real happy go lucky person. The only accommodation social services can offer is a care/nursing home for aged 80 plus. Gary is now sat starring at the floor, its not him, he will deteriorate. Please give us some advice what can we do/
WE NEED ADVICE PLEASE HELP.: My uncle age 56 Downs... - Mencap
WE NEED ADVICE PLEASE HELP.
Look for private landlords that provide residential care home for special needs/disabled/handicapped or autism - ask social services for list of homes or look on the internet for affordable homes - is the only advice I can give
He needs a specialist care home for those with learning disabilities and autism. Somewhere like carers count could probably help.
Hi, welcome to the forum. Your uncle deserves the very best of care from those experienced in caring for learning disability in older age. I would give the helpline 0808 808 1111 a call, the trained advisors will have information or point you in the right direction. I hope this helps, best wishes.
There is a directory for homes for adults with LD. I can guarantee SS have gone with the cheaper option 😡. I’d make a list of places, visit them yourselves and then tell SS your choice. My family used to own a group of homes for adults with LD and they were fun, happy places. Xx
Hello cookieleece1971
Your uncle deserves better, specialist care. Provision for this varies widely depending where you live. Please do call our helpline on 0808 808 1111 as they have trained advisors who will know more about what is available where you uncle lives.
Many thanks
