financial assessments

hi I’m hoping I can get some help regarding social services financial assessments for direct payments. My son is autistic and has learning difficulties, he still lives at home. I’m in the process of filling the financial assessment form in but unsure what can be claimed for. I was originally told that a proportion of household bills could be included, but have since been told that is no longer the case.

Can anyone help?

Hi Spudandtravis, the adult services will want to know all your sons disability related expenses and income. They then work out from this what contribution he will need to make towards care costs.Try to keep all receipts for expenses, if you haven't done so now, then keep them for the following years assessment.

My son has severe autism with learning disability, so some of his disability related expenses would seem strange to the outsider but I included them anyway, for example £30 worth of balloons per month, £40 of fuel per month to take for a drive 3 times per day which keeps him calm, extra shoes and clothing because he walks alot, aprox £30 per week on fast food obsession. I printed out receipts from amazon for balloons, and they wanted a professional to back me up about fuel etc like a social worker.

I included my sons quarter share of household expenses, like utilities etc as there are 4 in our household, but not rent , as I've read that charging his share of rent is a complicated area and could be classed as a business 🤷

Good luck😊

Hi, I included the extra costs of laundry so wash powder and water and electricity used for the extra I have to do. Also the extra costs of clothes, underwear, period products. This was as well as the regular household costs as already mentioned in another post. Don't forget to include things like his share of TV licence and home insurance as well as electricity and water usage. To work this out I divided the cost by three as there are three of us in the house.

I tried to think of any costs that are not the norm or are extra caused by my daughter's disabilities.

I had to work out things like the extra laundry expenses to find out what is our normal usage then the extra due to her disability issues. It's worth including anything that you think may qualify. I don't include rent.
