I need to get a Dyspraxia assessment for my son . I need to get this done fairly soon . Does anyone know who can do it ? I am hesitant about asking GP because we are still waiting for Autism assessment for 3 years.

I don't know if your son is still in education? I just spoke to my brother who had a dyspraxia assessment when he was younger - his was done through his university but I would imagine any educational establishment should be able to help(?) Good luck!

I have asked his college ( not uni) and they said the OT he has doesn’t do assessments.

Sorry to hear that's dead end. I do hope you manage to have some luck elsewhere. Just to mention, my brother did also say that he later also went through an assessment with the NHS and found them to be much more thorough than the university had been.

I have been waiting for his Autism test for over 3 years and have now decided to get the assessments done privately as he needs them for his EHCP. The pandemic has delayed things a lot.

The Dyspraxia foundation don’t do it either but I have seen an organisation called dyspraxia uk They charge around £800

in my area the occupational therapists do a co-ordination assessment and if something is found refer to paediatrician to diagnose developmental co-ordination disorder (not called dyspraxia anymore) x

Hello - Sorry for delayed response. My , now adult son, was diagnosed with dyspraxia- developmental co-ordination disorder, many years ago by an occupational therapist linked to the Paediatric Centre in Cardiff. I was a member of the Parents Dyspraxia Group, one of whom was a GP, so frustrated with the absence of services and support, that she set up the Dyscovery Centre- now part of the University of Wales- please note the spelling (y not i). They now undertake all nature of assessments and therapies for children with a range of developmental disorders, including ASD. The difficulty in going to some private assessment organisations, was that the assessments were not accepted or integrated into Local Authority Educational Assessments and so a great deal of money can be spent without impacting on a childs EHCP. The Dyscovery Centre assessments were, I believe accepted. May be worth contacting them for signposting to similar services in your area.
