I'm in denial about my weight. I'm 22 stone.

because I'm stocky I don't look fat and my staff say I'm overweight but not that big, its not a big deal. I can still walk everywhere without breathlessness. But I'm approaching 40 and unhappy about my weight and I drink a lot of beer. I need to change!

Because I'm not at emergency level of fatness there isn't much support.

I follow the Public Health Collabration and Low Carb Down Under on YouTube. I try to listen to one of their broadcasts each day to remind myself how to eat healthily. I no longer crave the next meal/snack and eat a lot less without feeling hungry. It feels good to be back in control. At my age I was concerned about the increased risk of diabetes and all the health risks that come with it. I'm afraid beer is full of carbs. Good luck.

Hi there! It takes a lot of courage to open up about personal challenges like this, and it's wonderful that you're ready to make positive changes. Small steps can lead to big transformations over time, so changing some parts of your lifestyle slowly could be really beneficial in feeling like your best self. For instance, consider setting specific, achievable goals, like incorporating more fruits and vegetables into your diet or gradually reducing your beer intake. Regular exercise, even if it's just a daily walk, can make a significant difference over time too.

I'm also a big beer fan, so I'd recommend trying to incorporate some light beers into your life. I think cutting out things you enjoy completely is unsustainable in the long run, so having an alternative could be good from time to time. I like the beer 'skinny lager', that is low-cal but still tastes nice. I also like 'rockshore light', it tastes pretty much the same as the regular rockshore, but is fewer calories -- it may only be available in Northern Ireland though, I'm not too sure. Wishing you the best of luck :)
