Hi my son was a boarder at a specialist residential college from 16 -19, quite a few years ago.It worked well we lived an hour away but he came home most weekends. My daughter was studying for her exams at the time so it helped her with peace and quiet during the week. He couldn’t go to the local college so it had to be residential.

Hi. My son went to residential college at 19. He was a termly boarder (38 week placement). Honestly if I’d known how well he would do there I would have looked at it for post 16 instead of him staying at his absolutely useless school. He left there in July last year age 23. The college were wonderful with supporting us to find an amazing residential placement.

The college was fantastic. He had a real problem with being overweight and they supported him with a strict diet and he lost 3st the first year.

My advice would be to visit a few .

Totally dependent upon the extent and kind of LD that your young person has. A good residential college can really make a difference in my opinion- Do your research fully though and don't be fooled by a glossy prospectus or website - check CQC and Ofsted reports
