Hi took my serviley disabled brother who has austim and elipsly challening behaviour problems to the hub my GP booked for him and was told that they can't deal with him as their not trained in challenging behaviour problems and adults with autism have rang everyone from CCG to heath watch and others all to be told that they can't answer any questions as they have nothing in place for them at the moment and their no government guidelines regarding them at all

Vaccine I

I am in the same situation with my son , no one can give me an answer , they all say they havnt come across this problem before and there is no guide lines . Everyone I speak to just sends me onto someone else but no answer as yet ?
My son likewise is complex challenging needs, requires vaccine as he is very vulnerable but he will need bespoke arrangements to allow this to happen. His complexity means he cannot avail of flu vaccine up his notes as he is too alarmed by and cannot understand the purpose of vaccine. His bloods have not been taken for years as he won't let a needle near him. This cohort of people who are most vulnerable should be given a pathway for the vaccine that meets their unique needs or despite the vaccine being available they won't be able to avail of it. There doesn't seem to be a plan of action to take difference into account which is outrageous but also typical.
Hello 124577
What a frustrating and stressful situation.
There are quite a lot issues where we are all waiting to clearer guidance. I will post on here if I learn of any developments in this area.
There are quite a few posts on here - healthunlocked.com/mencap/p...
Here is a link to two documents from the Challenging Behaviour Foundation. One called A guide to your COVID-19 vaccination and the other COVID-19 Vaccine: Accessibility and reasonable adjustments for individuals with severe learning disabilities whose behaviour challenges. Links to both these posts are on here:

I know these don't give you the clarity you need - I will see if Lyndsey (our expert this week) has anything further to add.
Best wishes
Sarah
