Hi everyone,

The Disability Unit at the Cabinet Office is developing a National Strategy for Disabled People. Publication is planned for Spring 2021.

To help the government with understanding the barriers that disabled people face and what it may need to focus upon to improve the lives of disabled people, they have launched a survey.

This survey will ask about your life experiences either as a disabled person, a carer or parent or as someone who has an interest in disability issues.

The survey can be found here, including an Easy Read version: disabilityunit.citizenspace...

It closes on the 23rd April.

Looks like a good opportunity to influence the government's thinking on how to improve support for carers and people with a learning disability and autism!

I’m disappointed the survey doesn’t include any questions asking how parents/relatives cope when their loved ones move out of the family home, eg how much input there is to any decision making regarding the person before during and after they move. What support is available for parents/relatives about coming to terms with their loved ones moving out. How are parents/relatives enable to maintain contact etc etc. I feel this group of parents/ relatives is disgracefully overlooked.
