I would like support from the community to sign my petition for a adults disability commissioner for England, we have a children's commissioner for England, why not a disability commissioner for England. This is another way for our voices to be heard, in relation to our concerns for the lives of our adults, living with a learning disability or complex needs, and for changes to be made.
I've signed. Completely agree, some of our disabled loved ones with learning disabilities, often minimally/non-verbal, are as vulnerable as children, so deserve the same protection and support, the parents of whom have their best interests at heart and know them better than anyone, so should be consulted and listened to at all times, not disregarded and shown no respect for the knowledge they possess. I think the parents should automatically become the Deputy for the most severely learning disabled upon reaching 18yrs.
thank you very much for responding to my post and signining the petition. The more signatures the better for the government to take notice and respond, so please share the link if you can
Hi I signed and shared the petition on Facebook and a couple of my friends also signed it. Am I right in saying you started this petition 2 years ago? It's astonishing that less than a thousand people have signed it. I wish more people on this site would read and sign it. I have signed many petitions over the years which I have believed in and they do get results but some people are sceptical of them. I agree with everything you say as especially through Covid I wasn’t able to form a bubble with my son who was living in supported living which has left us both with anxiety. We need this petition out there if anyone knows how we can do that thanks. Take care x
Yes I was surprised too. Apparently after 10,000 signatures, petitions get a response from the government. After 100,000 signatures, petitions are considered for debate in Parliament.I guess the difficulty is getting people to see it. It would need to go on every disability forum out there.
thank you all for your comments, in particular getting the petition signed. This is my reason for joining Mencap's forum, if you know how to get onto more disability forum platforms, please help me to do this, I am truly grateful so far for all your support. Helen Wheatly MP, has emailed me and has said the same thing, in the meanwhile, she has agreed to speak to the disability MP, too, at least she is listening.
That's strange, I found it on the healthunlocked's blog, on number 4- 'help', unfortunately it says you can't leave comments on the blog. Here's the link- healthunlocked.com/blog/pos...
I wonder if its possible for you to post about your petition on all communities on health unlocked, they have about 500, without having to join each community, perhaps email - support@healthunlocked to find out?
