Does anyone else have a relative in a residential home (NOT supported living) in Wales that is being denied all home visits?

The rules for supported living have been changed to allow people to have overnight family stays in Wales, but my daughter (33, with LDs but healthy) is not even allowed out for a walk with me. I am desperate to get Welsh Govt to change the guidelines to allow her to come home for Christmas. Is anyone else in the same boat? Normally she stays with me every weekend but hasn't been home since March. I'm allowed 1 hour a week outside visit. She goes out with staff, and another person in her home goes to school, but she is being denied all home visits or even an outing with me. Please tell me I'm not alone...I've contacted Welsh Govt but no joy. It needs more of us! Thank you. All the best to everyone. Sue

Hello Suethemum

I am sorry to hear about this.

It would be worth getting in touch with the Wales Learning Disability Helpline on 0808 8000 300. The helpline can give you information to help you challenge decisions.

You could also get in touch with your local MP to ask for their support and advice. I know this might feel a bit dramatic, but they are there to support you and your daughter. You can find your local MP on this website- theyworkforyou.com/

Mencap also do campaign on a number of issues across the UK. Find out more here - mencap.org.uk/get-involved/...

Best wishes

Thank you Sarah. I have tried all those. Am I the only person in Wales with a young family member in Residential Care?! Seems like it at the moment...
