Hi,I hope I am not breaking the rules Mencap I do check them regulary but can forget.

I’ve been following this American company, Johns Crazy Socks for a couple of years and over time I’ve seen it grow, now not only is John a major part of the company,he has Down’s syndrome, more than half of the paid staff have LD or an ASD.

They have socks for most topics, and every pair sold donates some money to the special Olympics, and many also donate as well to charities related to the socks,I’ve ordered last week the world Down’s syndrome awareness day socks, as so many of my friends have DS, I am planning on getting my mum the healthcare superheroes ones as she has been struggling with very serius cancer-diagnosed just before the first lockdown and has been helped so much by the Christie’s cancer nurses and specialists while waiting for chemo and surgery.

If you want the link,it is johnscrazysocks.com

And you can track every step of the way here which is cool.

Hello LDAutie

Thanks for posting. I wouldn't normally allow posts that link to companies that are selling things** - but this is very interesting.

It is great to hear about employers who employ staff with a learning disability. It would be great to hear if anyone knows of any others.

Next month is Learning Disability Work Week and we are going to be encouraging employers to think different and employ people with a learning disability. Here is a bit more information about this - mencap.org.uk/advice-and-su...

I will share more information about this a bit nearer the time.

** Please note that the link to the sock company is not an endorsement. We are not encouraging you to buy from there at all.

Best wishes

Sarah

Hi Sarah, it’s very interesting isn’t it? Thankyou for letting it stay!

I love hearing stories like this as it gives a lot a hope to people in different ways, whether it’s the person with LD who wants to do something but never had the confidence,or the parent who have been told their child wont do anything for themselves .

I’d love to have my own app, aimed at LD and/or communication but I’ve looked into it on some app builders and its way to expensive, it is sad that there is no charitable app maker software out there who will do it for free knowing you doing it for good causes.
