Hi pogo121, welcome to the forum. My own brother and sister had power of attourney and advocated for our mom when she became too confused due to vascular dementia. It basically meant all her bills were payed on time, her finances were looked after, it removed a lot of stress for her. They dealt with social services, hospital and made decisions re her care. They had 1st hand knowledge of her likes/dislikes, the important things to her and made choices accordingly opposed to it being left to a stranger from social services. My mom trusted in them and was included in decision making where possible. You could begin to write down your wishes and choices for the future, it would be helpful to your wife and she could make choices knowing it's what you want too. It isn't always easy making choices for a loved one but if you know it's what they want it helps a little. I hope this has helped you somewhat. Best wishes and if you still have any concerns/questions etc the helpline number is 0808 808 1111.
