Help & Advice On Finding Motor Mechanic Course For Someone Who Is Autistic

Hi, My 21yr old nephew is very keen on a motor mechanics course. He is autistic, is shy and gets panicky in new situations but is ok when settled into a routine. He has no GCSEs, he does have functional skills in maths & English. He drives and has his own car which has given him the interest in working on other cars but is finding it difficult in finding somewhere that will accept him without formal qualifications. (Hull/Scunthorpe/Selby area) Does anyone know of any places/courses that will accept him? Any help/advice given is appreciated. Thank you.

Hi, thanks for your message. I will ask at local tech and job centre. The difficult part will be to actually get him there, as he really panics with strangers. Thanks again.

Hi, have you approached the autistic society re the apprenticeship. They may be able to advise of the types available, location and any support that may be needed to undertake the apprenticeship. It's so frustrating when they are willing and able to pursue a career path but the opportunities are so limited. It would be great if you could keeps us updated as to any progress, it will help others who find themselves in a similar position. Wishing your nephew the best of luck in his career.
