Yet again, another eventful month. Never a dull moment. Never. So Ryan has been doing good - he had an ingrown toenail the last several weeks. Not unusual. He has had ingrown nails his whole life. But this time it got very infected. Long story short - he started shaking with chills on the night of the 14th. With an active infection that was a red flag to me. I took him to our local emergency room and low and behold he was in an early stage of sepsis (staph) 3 days at the hospital and many many antibiotics later - he is doing lovely without that toenail lol. Anyway - that sucked. Port may or may not be contaminated but it seems to not concern oncology because of the extensive amount of antibiotics he has been on. Ryan is having elbow and rib pain. Next hurdle to focus on. MRI is being scheduled today for elbow to see if it is just simple normal pain or possible spread. Will keep all updated. Hope everyone has a safe and healthy holiday ❤️

As Roseann Roseannadanna used to say: If it's not one thing, it's another. Good reminder that those living with cancer have to also keep our eyes on the maintenance part of our general health.

Towards that end, gentle reminder to us as caregivers to also keep up with our own health and check ups. It's easy to get behind.

As encouragement, I was able to get the upgraded 2 series Shingrex vaccine that our oncologist had recommended I not get while Wayne was alive and in treatment. I got my flu shot for the season. My routine scheduled mammogram came back with a clean bill. Next, scheduling my 10 year colonoscopy redux.

Thinking ahead and scheduling for our own healthcare in these days of COVID takes more time and effort, but you are *all* worth it.

and perhaps schedule a pedicure while you're at it :)

peace,

missy

So glad Ryan is better now. Sepsis is so scary. Enjoy your Thanksgiving dinner and stay safe.

Oh Kelly, I’m so sorry to hear Ryan had Sepsis. Terrible. I absolutely hate those words Sepsis. The 3 times Mark was in the hospital for a week each, he had Sepsis, and I don’t think they ever totally got rid of it, until the last time when all his organs were shutting down and finally they listened to me. Mark had all those same symptoms, along with a horrible UTI which had him totally incoherent. Ryan is so lucky to have you by his side, and advocating for you. You are so knowledgeable with all this. Quite amazing. You go girl.

Damn, so sorry to hear something is amiss with Ryan’s elbow.. praying that the MRI proves unremarkable

All my love and blessings to you and Ryan.
