Following a weekend of excitement around the HU10, and lots of brilliant posts, I have a feeling of “follow that?”, especially as I have yet to complete my run. But, my first task is obvious. I have to thank linda9389 and Irishprincess for all the hours of hard work they have put in to make the event a success. To all appearances, they have been like two swans gliding along serenely without causing a ripple on the water; in truth, they have been paddling madly beneath the surface to bring things together. They are simply brilliant.
Today I am heading out for my HU10 mile effort. I have read all of the happy posts, complete with photographs of smiling rosy cheeked runners and accounts of sweltering conditions, but tomorrow, up here in the North East of England, the weather is likely to be a continuation of a weekend of heavy coastal mist blotting out the sun, and a chilly North to North East wind. Just getting my excuses in first! The tree lined trails I run should afford some shelter. Mother Nature(freshly carved)looks after us!
My 10 mile pace has picked up recently, as has VO2 max; Coach Bennett’s “increase pace without increasing effort” has helped…one day what this meant just clicked! The rest has been around returning to running hills and refusing to walk the peaks, running intervals harder and doing strength/ flex exercises regularly following a trip to my physio in March. Oh, losing a stone in weight may have helped too!! It all feels a bit too good to be true. Today could be a 10 mile PB…or I could fall flat on my face….watch this space!
Enough of me! How is your running going? Maybe you are having a period on the dreaded couch, or maybe you are breaking records left right and centre. However things are, we love to hear about it. Good luck to everyone donning their running shoes this week….and, for those further south at least ….hydration hydration and hydration. Have a great week everyone. Don’t forget to post your HU10 times!
🌟 stop press!! I managed my 10 miles!! Comparing Garmin times, I beat my last PB (1:52:40) by exactly 1 minute…(1:51:40), which is what I was aiming to do. I have given Linda the elapsed time as instructed….for this run it was 1:54:16 …..drink, natural causes and traffic) v 1:52:46 in 2022. 🙂
Thank you BC. Without our lovely members, HU10 would have been nothing. It has been wonderful seeing so many people get out together and great fun reading all the race reports.
Bon Courage tomorrow BC, pom poms are waving for you.
I think we have one more dry day here down South, then it's back to rain again🤷♀️
Have a great week everyone 😊
P.S. Still grinning broadly now that I'm back to 10k again. It may be slow, but that's just fine 😁🥰
Thanks Linda. Glad that you are still grinning; suggests that your legs are happy with the 10k too. Pace comes later as you know. I will do my best to make 10 miles today…..porridge first…this army marches on its stomach!! 🙂
So good to read everyone’s run reports. I love being part of this community. Huge thank you to linda9389 & Irishprincess for all the work organising.
I’m just back from my HU 10K & my 10 miler will be part of my longer run this week. I’m not sure whether I put myself down for the double but Marathon training has made that very doable. I love that 4 years ago 5k was far & 10k was still a dream.
Good luck RunWillie, I hope that your bug has passed and everything will be working smoothly again for you this week. Well done on the 10k; nicely set up for your long run👍
I second those sentiments towards linda9389 and Irishprincess (and you too of course Beachcomber66 !) for making the HU event such fun. Shame NRC didn’t want to sync with Spotify for me yesterday, but I’ll take the HU playlist with me on my next long run.
Good luck today BC! You’re on a roll and you’re sure to do brilliantly on your 10 miles! Will be watching this space eagerly for the report. 👏👏👏
The chipmunk brigade are still on a high after yesterday! It was the best day. Next up for me, continue on with my HM Plan. I’m on W5 now. I love a plan! 😀
Beachcomber66 - you’ve got this! Your training sounds amazing.
After the excitement of yesterday it’s just a regular run week for me. Tempting to try for 10 miles but I know it would be foolhardy so will stick for now!
Thanks again to our formidable team and good luck to everyone taking on a “TEN” this week.
Thank you Joster. 10 miles will be waiting for you when you are good and ready. One thing on my mind is that I feel fitter, in terms of running anyway, than I have for years, and I don’t want to spoil that with injury. Today will be a battle between ambition and prudence…we will see how it goes.
I do hope that your run goes well in every well. It sounds like many aspects have come together for special a 10 miles. Have a lovely time 😊
I have only begun to read the HU posts, I am looking forward to them all. How lovely that you lovely admin make these things happen. Thank you. I also hope to write my first ever half marathon post! Yikes! Me 21km 13 miles!!!!! Head shaking in astonishment 😊🏃🏻♀️
I will run lighter knowing that you succeeded >61! Look forward to reading your post…in the meantime I have taken steps to help it sink in. Spot the difference!!🙂
Good luck for your 10miler Beachcomber66 ! You'll be great I'm sure! And yes many thanks to linda9389 and Irishprincess for all their hard work! 😘👌much appreciated!
I did parkrun(muggy slog!) , then yesterday's 10k so hopefully my legs will be OK as its our last IWRRvclub 5k series tonight , an out and back along the cycle track at 7pm🤞nominated time and no watches!!
I'll see how it goes! Have a great week everyone xxx
🙂 thanks IP. Tight quads this morning; must be the hills! Some stretches today, swim tomorrow; hopefully that will sort it out. Now, the question is, can I carry that pace into a HM? That’s another chapter for another day! For now I am still smiling about yesterday’s effort 🙄.
Thanks Cantstopmenow; this is starting to feel like a race day rather than a Monday run day….I had forgotten that feeling! I will put my sensible head on; provided I can find it in the next 45 minutes!🙂
Thank you for a great post, I really hope you don't fall flat on your face, but if you do we will as usual help you up and cheer you on .In the last two and a half weeks I have run precisely twice! Both times slower than most old ladies walk, I felt summer was happening as I lay miserably in my sick bed wondering how on earth I was going to pack and move, but this nasty bug is at last leaving me albeit slowly.
I've loved reading the HU10 posts and wish everyone happy running, what a great admin team we have 😄 we are lucky.
Thanks SAR. You will be ready for move day. I know from past posts that you are very organised and you worked really hard too. That ethic never leaves you; it pushes all obstacles aside. Hope the recovery continues apace.
Thanks, I'm just getting excited, I am now living amongst boxes and bags, be nice to take the first lot up on Friday, once that's done then I just know the rest must be packed away
My aim this year is to achieve a decent HM time, so this is a step in the right direction. What was most pleasing was the fact that I had plenty of gas left in the tank. This week should have been 20k in my HM plan, but I stopped the run at 10 miles….because that was today’s task. I think that I could have maintained the 6:56 pace for another 5k….and that would have chopped many minutes of my best HM time…..but…time will tell. 20k next week. Could haves and would haves are all very well but I need to turn them into “job done” …..then I will be really really chuffed 🤸🏻🤸🏻🤸🏻🙂
Hello BC, it’s great to read all the run reports, whether in races or on people’s doorsteps. The HU run brings everyone together for a week to celebrate that we are all running having started C25K. The work carried out by IP and Linda has been amazing and it will continue for the next week and beyond.
I will be taking it a bit easier this week on the running front, as UTS and I will be staying in the South Downs on our delayed wedding anniversary break. There might be some walking involved! And maybe some eating and drinking. 🥂
Well done you on completing your 10 miles today. You are a superstar. 🌟
I am sure that will be a brilliant break Dexy5; both of you give so much to running through Park Run and the forums,I think leave of absence for a celebration is just about deserved 😉.
The HU10 is a great success; so good to see so many positive posts, and people surprising themselves; especially me 😂. Have a wonderful time 🙂
Thanks misswobble. There was a chill in the wind this morning; just a one shirt run, but another layer needed for the walk home. Just about right really. I enjoyed it 🙂
Well done Beachcomber. 👏👏 I have been looking out for your report. I was just starting to wonder if you were ok when I spotted your edit. Phew! Very well done to you on a 10k PB 👏👏👏
Thank you ! It was a 10 mile PB ……. But hey, who cares…it was just a good run. Recovery run tomorrow….if the rain ever stops! It has been a really good week all round. 🙂
Same up here; but it isn’t raining this morning…yet! Our Old English, Molly, is very reluctant to go into the garden (for essential purposes) first thing if it is raining. So I have to walk out ahead of her to show it is ok. Spoilt or what?
Hill run for me this morning. The trail is quite firm, rocky in parts, so hopefully it won’t be flooded. 6 years since I started c25k …might be a two flat whites day!🙂
Hopefully BC not flooded, not raining, Molly has by now been brave, you're been out on that thar hill and are now enjoying a flat white or two and by the way congrats on your 6 years 👏
🙂 you are a bit ahead of me lexi! Setting off in about 30 minutes. I will be doing a 45 minute recovery run which just happens to have a 164m total ascent….lots to do before I earn those coffees! Still not raining though….🙂
Thanks lexi6; must have been all those waving Pom Poms giving me a bit of extra ooomph! I need to back off the pace for the next couple of runs. Today is hilly, but I can keep my average heart rate in the 130-139 range. I will soon find out if I have any post pb twinges!
