Prague/Berlin and a bigggg medal

I've been taking part in the Superhalf series of half marathons since last year. When the date for Prague was announced, I signed up. Then a few days later, the Berlin date came up...and it was taking place 24 hours later. Oh, eeek.

So after ummibg and ahhing, I decided to do them. Yeah, back to back Half Marathons, and something I'd never attempted.

Then the logistic nightmare started. For each race you HAVE to attend the Expo to collect your bib. This meant:

Flying into Berlin Thursday night.

Going to Berlin Expo Friday morning, then a 4 hour train journey to Prague.

The train was delayed by an hour because of a fire in Dresden, resulting in a trip to the Prague Expo straight from the station, then across town to the hotel. Checking in at 9pm.

Early rise to the Prague run (an energy sapping scorcher, with 25° heat). Back to hotel with no time to shower, before getting a train back to Berlin. (Thank goodness for the miracle of wet wipes). Another late night finish.

Up at 7am to prepare for the Berlin run. By then, I was flagging and could only manage two bananas and a small piece of bread for breakfast. Nerves were kicking in, with multiple trips to the loo, and a couple of precautionary Imodium!

But once at the start in Berlin, I calmed down. It was very hot but there was a lovely breeze. ll the runners were very relaxed, there was plenty of space for everyone and no pushing & shoving. The crowds lined the streets the whole way round, and the atmosphere was electric. The emotion of crossing the line at the Brandenburg Gate was something I can't describe and I admit I shed a few tears.

Then collected my 2nd and 3rd medals of the weekend, with the Superhalf series complete. My legs are sore, and boy, am I tired from all the travelling.

Nothing is Impossible. If you put your mind to it, you can do anything.

Congratulations to you Teresa1632 on running two Half marathons on consecutive days, well done especially in the way above average temperatures for this time of the year, if the temperature is 25C in April by July some places just like the last few years can expect +40C temperatures in July and August.

Every single superhalf has been in high temperatures. And at every single event, the locals said the temperatures were exceptionally warm that week, with cooler temperatures only the day before I arrived. Arrrgh!

Legs don't like walking downstairs yet 🤣.But got an easy 3 mile done today, and an ice bath afterwards, so starting to feel human again!

So are you doing Cardiff in October? That’s a superhalf. Or maybe you did it last year? 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Now that is what I call dedication! Doing one HM is an achievement, but another in a different country the next day? You have definitely earned the bling. Well done Teresa!
