On Sunday, our club took part in a 5 mile trail race hosted by another running club in memory of one of their members, who passed away.
Their club took on marshalling and supportive roles, one of the best supported races I’ve taken part in, lots of encouragement, laughter, cow bells gearing us all on.
The course was different terrains of gravelly paths, grass, bridges and lots and lots of mud. 😝 This was my 3rd trail race and I’ve found the muddier it is the better for me. It was raining heavily at the start.
I was given a great piece of advice at the start of a scary trail run with huge hills and lots of mud ‘pretend you’re in an Enid Blyton story having the best adventure’. So this is what I do, laugh like a loony all the way round, run through the middle of the mud and arms out windmilling running down hills 🤣.
Just over halfway round I ran past a guy who said ‘hey, you’re the first person who’s overtook me’, so I said ‘come on then’ and we ran the rest of the race together, gearing each other on up ‘Killer Hill’ and through yet more mud.
We high fived at the end and thanked each other, then went off to claim a lovely drawstring goody bag - and our medals with a pic of Chris Lam in the centre.
The sun had come out, drinks were being given out including wine, gin, beer and cider. It was a great atmosphere and our youngest club member took 1st female place and received a beautiful glass trophy and a cash prize. One of my favourite races to date. ☺️
