longest long run

Well today was the last long run of my FM training plan, Garmin was giving me a status of ‘strained’ before setting off - suspect it’ll be telling me off for a while!

We ran the ‘guild wheel’ around Preston - a 21 mile mostly off road walking/cycling path around the city. As usual I was accompanied by Jo, one of the ladies from our local running group who’s doing the runs just for the sake of it. 😛

Timing was appalling - the route uses the same path as the start of the local park run, but in the opposite direction. You guessed it - dead on 9 when we where there so had to stop to let 400ish runners past.

The weather was eventful - high wind, obviously a headwind! Rain, sun and hail. Just missed some snow for the full house.

nothing much else happened of note.

Feel much happier now that I stand a decent chance of completing the marathon under the cut off times - it was a worry last year as I’m a plodder.

Actually looking forward to next weeks 24km and thinking of it as quite short - who’d have ever though I’d say that was short!

Well done on your 21 mile run Reggit - and what a star, your friend Jo is! 👏🙂

Good run there Reggit. Confidence building. Who would have thought that a Park Run would be starting in a UK Park at 9am on a Saturday just because it happens every Saturday 😉. A good opportunity for a post warm up stretch.

Sounds as though you have got this 👊

I didn't read it as Reggit and Jo choosing to start their Saturday run at a UK parkrun venue at 9.00am, rather that they were already some way into their run when they inadvertently overlapped with the parkrunners.

When I did my longest pre-marathon run it never occurred to me to try to work out where I might be at various times, I was far too worried about completing the distance. Of course it doesn't help that I can't pace to save my life.

Hi Cmoi. I read it the same way. What I had in mind was that some runs in NRC start with a 5 minute warm up run, then you have stretches (in this case filling the pause waiting for the park runners to pass), then you start to run properly. Badly expressed and pretty lame anyway 🙄🙂

Haha - we were about 11km into the run when we happened across the start of the park run - I’d hoped to be past the start before 9am. But it started when we where about 30m from the line up, and no one was going to let us past 😃. A couple of minute rest didn’t make much difference in a 4 and a half hour run.

It was the "post warm-up stretch" that threw me!

NRC is yet another thing I don't do. Tried once and couldn't even get past Coach Lucien's intro. 😖

I have definitely had to dig for the gold nuggets in NRC, but there are some. I found my last HM much easier than my previous ones purely because of the app. I use intervals to pick up the pace a bit, and I like the fact that the data for each interval is presented individually, so the pace of each one is clear. I also like to be told when to start and stop! Spoon feeding, but hey, it works for me.

It's great that NRC works for you Beachcomber66 and it's clearly successful for many others too. I'm just weird!

😂 not weird; you just have likes and dislikes like the rest of us.

That's kind of you Beachcomber66 . However I'm definitely weird, particularly when it comes to sound. Have to cover my ears in Lidl when the instore bakery timer goes off because it's discordant and it freaks me out.

Well done on longest run. Hail made things a bit more exciting yesterday didn’t it. 😂 Hope all continues well with FM training 🌸☺️🌸

Well done Reggit - now that you've cracked 21 miles you can certainly achieve 26.2.

Great job ! Especially in view of the weather!

Good luck for your next training run. It’s going really well by the sound of it 👍😀

Great running there Reggit and congrats on your longest run to date. Best of luck with the rest of the training. Is your HR usually that high, it looked very demanding?

yeah it’s usually quite high, however look at the elevation profile on the Strava link. I never realised how uphill the last 10k actually is (I do think my watch is exaggerating it to a degree though).
