to be completely honest i had a bit of a melt down over the last few days ... i knew it was going to be an emotional Cardiff half but didn't realise the emotions would come out the way they did.
In thinking i had not achieved anything by running and then jeffing the rest of the half somehow distracted me from the achievement I had made in memory of my dad and raising money for charity at the same time.
i was disappointed with my time but upon reflection it is only 18 minutes slower than the last time i ran it and to be honest there was more jeffing towards the end of that run lol.
i will take all your advice on board and look forward to starting back and enjoying it again

And there you have the HU effect in its full glory ❤️ We are all like-minded runners. Some prioritise their goals differently, but when it comes down to it we’ve all been in your position for one reason or another.
It’s wonderful that you’ve taken time to reflect and can now realise how amazing your achievement was. 13.1 miles! Your dad would have been so proud of you!
We’re all looking forward to seeing what you get up to next. 😀
This is such a great post. So pleased you are seeing some light at the end of the tunnel. It sounds like there was a lot of non-run related pressure and emotion in that run. It takes time to 'decode' emotion of that magnitude. You did well. You achieved a great deal to be proud of. Now you can look ahead 😊
Join the club! I quite often have episodes similar to yours. I call it head gremlins and they can come at any time. My last HM was a complete disaster, I was going too fast at the start but thought it was ok until the doubt set in. I did the same in my last marathon as well and walked about a quarter of it. I also suffer quite badly with insomnia so I guess that plays a part.
A major thing you (and me) have to drop is "time". It takes away all the fun and puts too much unneeded pressure on us. There's a lot of talk on low heart rate or Maffetone running, which is done at a very slow pace. I've been doing that for the past year and find it really helps. It also trains your body to feed on your body fat which is another good thing.
Try to think of the positives running is doing for you and try not to give a hoot about time's. Do it for the enjoyment, the buzz, the head space and the sense of self achievement.
I didn’t see your original post, but anyone who does a HM to raise money for charity deserves all the support that HU can throw at you. It must have been incredibly emotional for you. There is no shame in jeffing in any run or race. Big hugs to you.
