After last year's bouts of covid continuing to effect this year's running, I'd started to think I'd never get back to 10k.
As I was only back up to 6k & without the HU races being due, would have been doing 7k this weekend, I'd decided not to beat myself up about walking if needed or even for the last few k as long as I got round π€
I prepared really well, being extra carefull to stay hydrated and doing stretches & rolling in the few days prior...though I started with a cold on Thursday & was crossing everything it wouldn't cause an issue π€
Well this morning I woke feeling rested & apart from a mild sore throat & snuffly nose felt pretty well...so before I could dare to overthink, I drank some water, had a couple of bites of banana, a spoonful of honey, got kitted up, did some dynamic stretches, a last bit of rolling & got out the door π
And what a beautiful morning for a run, it started off so well, my legs felt loose, breathing was good, it certainly brought a smile to my face and let me hope maybe I could run the whole thing. With that in mind I decided to walk the few hills I'd encounter, to hopefully not overtire myself & I have to say it worked really well π
I'd expected to slow considerably in the last few k but in the end took them faster than expected as at 6k my watch told me my battery was low (clearly not quite as prepared as I thought π)...luckily I knew the route to 10k & there was a man walking his dog so I asked him the time, banked that along with my 6k time, so if it did die I'd be able to work out how long I'd taken when I got home π
I then proceeded to try to beat my watch battery, and though it's not something I'd recommend, it was a brilliant distraction π³ π
I completely forgot to worry if I was over-doing it & if I would make it to the end. In not thinking & just running (while regularly looking at my watch), I arrived home jubilant & amazingly pressed save just before my watch died π
I am absolutely shattered but to say I'm thrilled would be an understatement...thank you so much Linda for arranging this, & to all the wonderful folks on our fabulous HU running forums. Now I'm going for a much needed shower...that may be the smell of success but I'm not sure anyone but me would appreciate it π€
Included with my times are a fabulous pic my Aunty Bet sent me as it's my birthday weekend...I assume she's suggesting the drink after my run rather than during π
