Better late than never as they say, this run was last Sunday and I’ve only just got round to writing something 😂
I’ve just done my HM race after 14 weeks of training with Greg McMillan (Garmin Coach)
I was hoping for a 2.20’ ish finish, however I knew in the first 500m that it wasn’t going to be a good run, however let’s see what happens.
By 11km my pace was starting to slip and after around 17km it was starting to be a slog and pace had dropped to 7’30”/km
However I finished in 2.25.25 and set PB’s on all distances from 15km. It was also I’ve managed to run the full HM distance without a walking break, so happy with that as well.
The training plan I followed was time based with the longest runs 2hrs - 16km at my pace. That seemed to work to my detriment as upto 16km my times were reasonable. Lesson learned.
I had some challenges on the run up to the race, my Mum unexpectedly passed away, then immediately after the funeral my Dad has a new hip fitted, so I moved in with him for a week whilst he wasn’t very mobile. Somehow I managed to keep up with most runs, although my head wasn’t in the best place at the time.
Overall, despite not feeling it during the run I’m happy with the results and nearly 5mins chopped off my HM PB will do for me.
Photo is the only reasonable one the official photographer got of me, approaching the finish with my eye on the timing strip!
Oh, I did something stupid last night on a whim… entered the ballot for London 2024 (knowing my luck I’ll probably get selected eek)
