Mini race support. Arrived an hour prior to start and parked in the (disused?) Nuclear power station car park.Car park is a 10 minute walk to the start. Walked to the race control with fully loaded bag with kit for any condition slight drizzle in the air.
No manned bag drop just left my bag in the hall. Long queues for porta loos, too long for me.
There was 2 separate start lines for the 20miles and HM.
Race brief was at 9 race started at ten past.
Course is on country roads which are still open but traffic was really light, junction were well marshalled by enthusiastic volunteers. 20miles is two loops of the main section, couse was described as flat but felt like some rise and falls with no real hills, although we did run through a village called Hill!
Started race with 3 ladies from my club but soon realised a few KM that I wouldn't be able to keep pace with them running at around 5:20.
Started my watch late so wasn't really sure of my distance, milage markers only began around mile 7 for the HM.
Around 90 minutes in I started passing the slower 20 milers and being passed by the leaders of the 20 milers on their second lap!
Picked up the pace for the last couple of miles. I liked the finish where you round a roundabout and have a straight to the finish being cheered on.
Noticing the finishing clock I decided to give it my all with a sprint to the line . I think the picture proves this.
Finished with PB, collected my wooden medal and into race control to pick up my bright t-shirt, coffee and cake.
Then back to the finish line to cheer on everyone else.
