As I’ve signed up for the Manchester half in a couple of weeks, and haven’t completed an organised run previously I decided to enter a local 10k to see what it’s all about.

It was an interesting route - I’ve been told it’s not normal to have steps on a race route (just 3 or 4 mind). The route took in the local parks - they’re huge - and other roads I’ve never seen before. It was quite lumpy in parts, for the first time I was glad it’s hilly where I live as I’m used to inclines.

I moved some of my HM training runs around, so this would be an easy paced run. Mr Garmin suggested I should pace at 7’30”/km (not happening - I struggle to run that slowly), however I decided to drop in behind some runners who where running at a sensible pace so as not to overdo it. I have a tendency to get carried away and set off too fast.

Anyway. Completed it in just under 65 minutes, and took 1’50” off my 10k PB - not bad for an ‘easy run’.

Now looking forward to the half, and booked another 10k for November. I think the addiction has started 😂

Well done - definitely one of the benefits of training for a HM is that our pace often inproves on the shorter runs!! Also, the buzz of an organised event seems to help too. 🙂Great time and good luck for your upcoming Half!👍🙂🏅

You did really well to pace yourself and run with fellow runners. As you say, it’s so easy to get carried away at the start.

Well done on the race and the time. It all bodes well for Manchester 👍

Congratulations on your first organised event👏, and I can confirm that hey are very addictive 🤣.

Good luck on your Manchester HM, I hope you have a great experience. Keep to your plan at the start and don't get carried away, you might well find yourself as I have in the past running too fast at the start and suffering either physicaly or mentally from it.
