Hello!

It's Monday, let's chat 😊

How are you getting on? Tell us all about it!!! πŸ‘‡

Have you BIN GOing? Tell us about that too! If you haven't seen it yet, check out Linda's Festive Mojo Bingo card here: healthunlocked.com/marathon...

I've got a new pair of running shoes coming in the post today or tomorrow. They're made of corn! Amongst other things I should add 😊 I bought a pair for my sister early this year and she really likes them - hope I do too πŸ˜‚ Check out their website, "we aim to use materials that are renewable, circular and resource-light to enable us to move the industry beyond petroleum-material dependency" pretty interesting hyloathletics.com/ (I'm not affiliated, and I'm actually not optimistic that they'll cope with marathon distance!)

In other roseabi news, for various reasons I haven't been able to fit much running in over the past couple of weeks, but on Thursday I got out for a 12k plod along the prom. When I'd finished my Garmin informed me that I should take three days rest! THREE DAYS??!!!!?? I suppose Mr Garmin is somewhat unimpressed with my performance lately πŸ˜‚ Anyway, I wanted to get somewhat back on track and fit in my intervals run for the week, so in disregard to Mr G's paternal warnings I did it a couple of days later , finishing under a freakishly pink sky* πŸ™‰

Have you ignored any advice lately? 😁

Probably don't do what I did, but do enjoy your running/crosstraining/resting/recovering/healing!!!

The Marathon Team xxx

Hi roseabi those shoes made of corn sound interesting - do let us know how you get on with them! I've recently bought some Brooks Hyperion Tempo shoes, but I'm waiting for decent weather before trying them out.I was due to go out with my running club last Tuesday but it was cancelled due to the strong winds etc. Instead I went out for a run along the promenade on Wednesday. It was covered in shingle that had been thrown up from the beach the previous evening, so it definitely would have have been dangerous to run then πŸ˜•

I was also due to run with the club on Thursday evening, but I had to stay in waiting for a delivery. I ran on Friday afternoon though. It was just 4K as I had to get ready for our running club Christmas party in the evening! πŸ₯³πŸΊ It felt very strange to be out with a large group again (about 65 people) but everyone had done lateral flow tests beforehand and I haven't heard of anyone becoming ill since! πŸ˜€πŸ€ž

On Saturday I marshalled at Parkrun, then on Sunday put my running shoes on for another amble down to the seafront. I used a long run of 75 minutes on the NRC app and decided to concentrate on time instead of distance. That took me up to just under 10K so I did another couple of km just for fun.

This week I should be back at running club on Tuesday (and maybe Thursday) then at the weekend I've got a Christmas meal with a few friends on Friday evening and maybe another on Saturday sometime. I'm hoping to do Parkrun on Saturday too if I can.

Happily, all my Christmas presents are bought and wrapped and my cards written and posted, so I can relax a bit now!

Busy busy busy!! Well done, David - sounds like you're having fun 😊😊😊

Ah shingle, we have had a bit of that on our prom too - it's been a long while since we've had any at least!

Enjoy your relaxing times with friends and lovely food xxx

Mornin πŸ™‚

I hope your corn shoes will go the distance too πŸ˜πŸ‘. They can go in your voodoo compost bin when they’re worn out, so you get some extra mileage out of em (voodoo compost bin is a song ☺️)

Your photo is appropriate as I was at the seaside over the weekend, back in Maravan country, although I didn’t get to run ☹️ Plenty of walking though.

I did get on the beach to see my pal and dogs swimming in the sea 😳πŸ’ͺ I called in on my nice niece and fam on the return journey which was lovely πŸ₯°

This morning I am fed up with Christmas and birthday shopping 😀 so I am going πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ . The chores can go hang πŸ™‚. I must run or I will go barmy. Lemme outta here 😫

Have a good running week everyone. Get out there to run. Prioritise your own health and sanity πŸ˜ƒ

Hiya,

Corn shoes? Sounds... weird! Can they cope with rain for example? I do am curious now!

As for myself, I have done 3 runs last week (5K - 7K - 10K) during a week off at a holiday park. It was nice to run in another setting and the weather helped me, not being 100% rain as was predicted. Did run 2K in a drizzle during my last run, but it was ok. It helped that I could sit in an infrared sauna afterwards, hèhè.

Unfortunately holidays do stop and I am back at work. Should try to fit in a run after work today, though I have to admit I don't much feel like it. I'd rather sit on the couch under a blanket with my knitting. No sauna at home, so that's not an incentive either! And trust me, I have take measurements in my apartment to see if I can not fit a small 1-person sauna somewhere. But alas, no space for a sauna at all. Or I have to throw out my dining room and put the sauna in the middle of the living room. Which is not going to happen...

Cheers!

roseabiUltramarathon in reply to

Hi!

I think the shoes cope with rain as well as most running shoes do - i.e. they let the feet get wet πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Ahhh the sauna sounds lovely - who needs a dining room anyway?!?

Cheers! xxx

I saw those in Runners World this month, they look quite interesting. Are you going to report on them? I wonder how resilient they are in the winter months.

As for the 3 days recovery, Mr Garmin regularly tells me that and I regularly ignore him! πŸ˜… I’ve had 3.5 & 4 days too. One day I’ll get a chest strap and work out if he’s telling the truth.

This week I need to go back to my old lockdown routine. I’m stuck full time working from home again and my head really isn’t in the best place for it. Not started well though as I should have gone out for a run first thing.

I have booked a half body deep tissue massage for next week. Very much looking forward to that and having my legs not ache so much. They haven’t forgiven me for the mileage I’ve made them do this year! Maybe I should listen to Mr Garmin occasionally…but thenβ€¦πŸ€”

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathon in reply to TailChaser

Yes I will report on the shoes - looks like they'll turn up today, so I hope I can try them outside later in the week, if they fit OK! 🀞

I had a chest strap a few years back, but I found it pretty uncomfortable combined with my bra! I will try and organise myself a bit better this week so I can get all my runs done with more rest between 😊😊😊

There doesn't seem to be enough hours in the week though! Sorry to see you're struggling with the old routine, I hope the massage will make you feel better!!

I’ll be really interested to hear how they feel roseabi πŸ‘

That’s what puts me off a chest strap, there must be an easier way? I hope Mr Garmin calms down for you again.

Mine was 47 hrs after this morning’s run but I’ve not been putting the mileage in to get my fitness up. Good to get out though, I didn’t feel quite as hemmed in today. I know what you mean about not enough hours in the day though, it took me a good 20 minutes of faffing because it was dark and I had to get all the hi vis kit on!

I’m keeping my fingers crossed about the leg - I’m hoping this change means my ankle is finally mending and my leg is just getting referred pain whilst it sorts itself out 🀞🀞🀞 Thank you πŸ€—πŸ€—xxx

I wear a Garmin chest strap & it doesn’t annoy me although I only wear a minimal type sports bra. It only came loose once running park run but think that’s a reflection on how I run at park run πŸ€ͺ

I wear full on scaffolding and as I have a short body there’s not much room for anything else 🀣

Hi roseabi & other running superheroes

New shoes are always exciting. Love the ethos of the brand but couldn’t see any technical specs? Think I’m pretty sold on my ugly foot shape zero drop runners though.

Garmin always gives me great recovery times but also tells me I have an anaerobic shortage so that’s probably why🀣

Now Summer is here, I’m running early and loving it. It’s so peaceful which is good as the rest of my day isn’t with 5 boys home for the holidays.

Have a great week everyone β€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

roseabiUltramarathon in reply to RunWillie

Not sure quite what specs you're after, but if you scroll down this page (for example) you will find the weight and drop of the shoes plus diagrams of their construction hyloathletics.com/products/... yes that is the colour I'm getting 😁 It is probably fair to say that Hylo are mainly selling on sustainability. I have read that their toeboxes are roomy, and the shoes I'm told are generally very comfortable. 'Foot shape' shoes are problematic for me because my feet just aren't that shape - but I love the idea of them! I do own a pair of Vivobarefoot shoes, although I don't run in them.

Garmin usually gives me very sensible recovery times, but my eyebrows were raised by the concept of three days to get over a flat 12k πŸ˜‚

5 boys wow, sounds fun if a bit noisy! I'm glad you have that peaceful time to yourself, and that view to relish - how absolutely lovely 😍😍😍

Happy running xxx

Thanks roseabi 😍

I was interested in what drop they were but I found it. I love the vivobarefoot brand although don’t own any. I’ve just bought some correct toes and they only fit in my Altra’s not my other minimal barefoot shoes so think that might influence my shoe choice going forward.

Don’t listen to Garmin. You’re a running superhero β€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Corn shoes! Hope they dont' dissolve like those corn bits of packaging! Do keep us posted. I missed my Friday run due to just being too busy but it meant when I came to Sunday's "long" run in week 3 of my HM plan (5 miles) I was raring to go and made it with spare in the tank.

Longest proper run (rather than stumble/stagger/walk a daft 10k in May) since April when I checked, shocked with myself that it's been so long. But it went really well, steady start and finished strong, so I know I'm on for the big 6 miles/10km next weekend at the end of week 4.....

Love love loving my Nike Run Club Guided Run Training Plan (bit of a mouthful!). Coaches in the ear honestly making the difference between me getting on with it and getting through it and just not doing it. They are BRILLIANT.

That’s a very sustainable solution. I also wonder how they will take a beating. I was shopping for Hokas over the weekend and it looks like some of their shoes have recycled uppers too. It’s a nice trend to see. The Hokas seem to be in short supply so I’m just going to take my chances and pop into the local run shop fingers crossed.

I’ve been working my way through the festive Bin-Go! also and have the postie walk, the hills run, plus the 21.1k run this weekend. After my run this morning, Suunto wants me to take a 117hr break!! Sure, yep I am on it Suunto. 🀣

I have been trail shoe shopping too, but I think the only green element is in the flouro colouring. Inov Trailfly Ultra G300 max. They turned out to be the most expensive ones I tried on, but my friendly owner managed running shop gave me a nice discount. I chose them for comfort; a nice sized toe box, good support around my ankles and a smooth soft heel guard to (hopefully) reduce achilles irritation. They have to go away until Santa comes, so maybe a Boxing Day debut for them.

My running is all over the place; nothing positive to report. I am just fitting in short runs when I can and looking forward to a New Year.

Corn shoes! 😲 I’ll be interested to hear about those πŸ€”I’ve been working my way through the Bingo. It got me out for an early run last week and β€˜made me’ have a mince pie for my breakfast on my return πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Corn shoes? What a hoot roseabi! Can’t wait to hear what you think of them.

I’ve beaten myself into submission and made time for yoga each day like I always did. I didn’t like missing my sessions, but a changed routine due to dropping grandson off at nursery on 3 mornings, plus taking him to playgroup and drama, played havoc with my β€œme” time! Don’t get me wrong, I love doing it, and when my daughter and family eventually move out, I’ll miss them. πŸ₯Ί

My running is still luke warm, and my distances have dropped considerably, but I’ll be embarking on my next HM plan (another avid NRC fan! πŸ™Œ) on the week after Christmas, so it’ll creep up again. I’ll need to leave the common for the longer runs though. Wind and slop? No thanks. πŸ˜–

I signed up for YWA's January session the other day - third time for me! It's the only time I ever do any yoga really 🀣 I love it, although I'm sceptical about fitting in a yoga workout every day. We shall see...

Awwwww big hugs to you πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ₯° And yay for the HM plan! xxx

I hope the corn shoes work out for you Rosabi

Well I discovered hills over the weekend, or rather hills pounded me! Suffice to say that hill training will be part of my training schedule from this week 😁I recently joined a running club and I've really enjoyed running different routes and it's a great way to meet other runners.

Ooh what a spooky sky 😱 like something from another planet! It does look beautiful though.

Corn shoes? We’ve got used to bamboo products now and I remember at the time I first heard of them going… WHAT??!! And now bamboo is all over the place.

I’ve just posted about my 10K race on Sunday, really enjoyed it although my training didn’t seem to make that much difference to my time ☹️ Anyway, it was fun and I got gorgeous bling so I’m happy 😍

My life is manic at the minute. We have a flurry of social stuff going on and I haven’t even written my cards or put up my tree! I’m determined to write my cards today and start the tree tomorrow. It takes me two days to put the trees up (2) I have so many decorations that I really need three but I think two is plenty for the time being πŸ™‚

This is an easy week of running and then I start training next week for Bath in March.

My Garmin is so old that it doesn’t talk to me and I can’t think of a time when I ignored advice, apart from my own. There have been a few runs when my sensible self has told me to stop because of pain but my stupid self has ignored that and carried on. Does that count? πŸ™„

Have a good week everyone x

Well it's getting near to the end of the club strava challenge and I'm still in the running (I make it 1 point behind the first woman and 3 points behind overall leader). Which means I have to make a serious attempt at the last challenge of the year which is to get the most elevation in 2.1 miles - and given how seriously the frontrunners are taking the challenge, they are going to set a very high bar! Luckily I have a potential ace in the hole as we're heading to North Wales after Christmas, so I have enlisted my parents to find me a steep hill to run up. I suspect I will regret this! Fortunately there's no limit on the number of breather breaks I can take, as I imagine there will be quite a lot...

Not sure I should be on here cos I'm never going to run a marathon or a race! I used to think that listening music was the only way to run...now I believe it to be stories/ dramas. It's annoying when the are only 15' and I have to stop to start the next episode.. Even when downloaded they don't automatically move to the next chapter....I had 1 short and 1 long run last week... I set the long 1 for1hr, ended up doing 2.....14k. Totally distracted by a good story...and getting lost....good combo.

Do corn shoes have anti-blister properties by any chance? Garmin frequently tells me I need 72 hours rest, but right now I'm being very good. The leg is considerably improved and I'm back to running every third day with just minor discomfort, progress. I ticked a couple of bingo boxes, but really need a bit more focus - I'll definitely try for the 5k Santa Dash box this weekend though πŸ§‘β€πŸŽ„ πŸ˜€

I suspect not I'm afraid! Although I'm not sure because my husband has decided that my shoes are for Christmas so he's going to wrap them up and put them under the tree. Mind you that doesn't necessarily stop me from trying them out... πŸ˜‰

Excellent progress!!! Enjoy your Santa Dash πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸŽ…

Hi roseabi and VRBs!

Those corn shoes look very tempting from an ethical point of view. I fear, though, they'd barely last one run round here. Temperatures are warmer, around 5Β° today, but roads are still slippery with mud, frost and ice in places, and forest tracks are worse.

In any case, I've had other priorities than running recently, so have barely been out, let alone attempted the Xmas bingo. Though I did do 14k today, so I guess I can tick off the 10k run! There was a reasonable amount of elevation, but I'm disinclined (see what I did there?) to count anything as climbing a mountain unless it's noticeably over and above (OK, I'll stop now) what I'd normally do. Might do a Santa dash this weekend though.

As for ignoring advice, I'm not even asking Mr Garmin; he hates me and the feeling's mutual. Does that count?!

Happy festive running, all!
