Hi Everyone,

I’m really enjoying my half marathon training and now my runs are becoming longer (12k) I’m looking for a budget pair of Bluetooth wireless headphones.

Has anyone got any recommendations and what do you use?

Thanks in advance

Mark.

I had a pair of Anker headphones which were £19 from Amazon. The quality was ok but like all cheap headphones they didn’t last long - certainly less than a year before they wouldn’t charge any more. It might be worth getting a cheap pair to see if you like the general concept but don’t expect them to survive long. I now have Aeropex and find them indispensable, you can hear traffic and they are accepted on parkruns and most races.

I’ve been using MPow Flame IPX7 sports earphones since September 2020. They’ve been the best budget earphones I’ve ever bought, cost me something like £23 via Amazon. Pretty good sound for the price. Always connects in a few seconds to my Samsung phone and never drops. They stay put in the ear too, which is the main thing when running.

I don’t know if they’re marketed under the Otium brand now on Amazon UK - they look similar and have the same specs. It seems you have to buy branded MPows directly from their US store. The Otiums are slightly cheaper so I would take a risk (if I were after a replacement pair).

Thanks for your help Ian.

I think I’ve found your exact pair on eBay, they say IPX7 in the description.

I’ll give them try.👍🏻

Mine are connected Left and Right with a short cable around the back of the neck. I only use the right side, clipping the left one to my collar just in case the right one falls out when running - though it never has. The main reason for wearing the one side is to be aware of traffic as I run along some narrow rural roads.

But, yeah, they look the same otherwise. 🙂

I have a ludicrously cheap sports neckband pair that cost under 8€! I'm on my second pair because I lost the previous ones at the first event I did, think they fell out of my trail pack when I was sorting stuff out afterwards. Just as well they were so cheap.

I'll probably upgrade at some point, but would want to try Aftershokz before investing. I don't cope well with having two or more simultaneous sources of sound so I'm not sure they'd work for me.

I was wary of investing in Aftershokz, as I have suffered from ponytail, glasses even hat headaches in the past. However I bit the bullet and my aeropex have turned out to be one of the best investments I've ever made. Love them 🏃‍♀️🎧

Thanks LadyGault . I'm unsure about Aftershokz because I have difficulty "tuning out" conflicting sound inputs, especially of similar volume. It's very weird!

I used to use a pair of Bluetooth headphones with a wire between them. They still work.

The type with individual pods without a wire would tend to lose the stereo link between them and one side would stop working (it's probably because I have a big head). I've also heard of others who have had one of the ear pods fall out in a run and it has become lost in the undergrowth. They also usually have a much shorter run time than wire-between ones. (The advertised time usually includes the charge stored in the case too.)

I got a pair of Aftershokz Aeropex about this time last year. Yes they're expensive, but they're well built and work well. My only complaint would be how the band that goes round the back of the head interferes with hats and caps.

This can become quite an expensive hobby at times! (Watches, headphones, fancy kit, shoes...)

I've been using a similar model to this for 3 years (mine are no longer available) and am very pleased with them. I've tried in-ear but they kept falling out! amazon.co.uk/Bluetooth-Wire...

Budget is always my default ☺️ I’ve got Muzili and they’ve been fine. Had them about a year now with no issues. 🙂
