This time exactly a year ago I set out to do W1R1 of C25K, slightly nervous but excited. I remember running/walking round and round a nearby cemetery (see photo from the road) thinking good Lord seriously, how many more?!!! But with quiet determination I carried on, and I soon realised how great the program is and why all my other previous lockdown running attempts had failed. Last November we were in yet another lockdown and C25K was the perfect antidote to feeling pretty yucky about myself. I was determined to use the time wisely and it really is one of the best things I ever decided to do. Another one was finding this absolutely brilliant, funny, wise, and helpful community that has added another dimension to my running, and life in general, so thank you.
Anyway, I did 10 miles today, which to be honest Iโm surprised at because while I donโt have niggles perse, my legs are tired no doubt to my evil colleague Sue getting us all doing 100 squats a day during November at work. It hurts ๐คฃ.
The weather is just beautiful today. I found a new addition to my route called Winnall Moors which while not very long, is really pretty. I cannot believe Iโve never stuck my nose in here before!
Flippedy tish only 60 more squats to go today. I mean really?! ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ. Have a smashing day all ๐๐๐.

Happy runniversary and 100 squats a day? wow!! we did a beginners HIIT thing last night and oh boy that had about 60 squats on top of my usual 10 here and 10 there through the day, got out of bed this morning and oh my word my thighs hurt lol ๐
Thank you! Yes those squats are hard - I didnโt think theyโd be so bad due to the running and I do leg exercises in the gym, but theyโve got me ๐คฃ. Well done on that HIIT, thatโs dedication. โญ๏ธ
Aw thanks Sparky! Got to say you have really motivated me along the way - I donโt know if Iโd have done that HM without seeing your excellent progress ๐, you have really helped me along the way with your encouragement and kind words. Deffo paper shopping tomorrow - once Iโve done those bloominโ squats ๐คฃ. Nerds rule!
Awe lovely, ๐ค works both ways ๐ช๐This forum and it's amazing people definitely make it all the more fun.. I don't know if I'd still be running without it!
I recon HU should be up for some kind of award for the motivation it gives for people to change their lives for the better ๐
Oh yes, do! I tend to peel off regular routes just to see where Iโll end up. It doesnโt always pay off as some are horrid but it helps to familiarise yourself with your area ๐๐
Congratulations! This is very inspirational, I had my 6 month anniversary last week, Iโve done a few 10kms now and planning to start half marathon training soon so I hope I can follow in your footsteps, amazing achievement!
Oh thank you so much! Itโs been a journey I have to say. When I first finished C25K my goal was to get to 5k, then 10k and so on - sounds as though youโre doing the same - youโll deffo achieve that HM! ๐๐๐
Happy runniversary ๐ฅณ and an extra cheer for running 10 miles. Iโve done that once and it pushed me to my limit! Well done ๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป
Thatโs totally amazing progress - to HM (thatโs what it says on your badge!!) โฆ and all before your first runniversary! ๐ Itโs mindblowing to think back to those first tentative steps on c25k, isnโt it? The design of the plan allows the impossible to become possible, and then a foundation for achieving the unimaginable. Well done on the squatathon, too. I participated in a collective squat-a-day earlier this year: just one single squat, but it had to be done as slowly as possible. (Certainly felt the effects of that.)
Thank you for your kind words! Yes, those first tentative steps, messing about with tech, working out what to wear, remembering to breathe, all such a learning curve ๐. Mind you I still do all of these ๐คฃ. Oh those bloominโ squats, I hope I start to feel some benefit soon. Ooooh a super slow squat, nooooo! Horrendous ๐.
๐ Ah, I see you can imagine the true difficulty in what sounds (to the uninitiated) as super-easy! There were some mornings when I wondered if Iโd ever manage to get back up; a strange experience where body and time seems to stand still while the mind speed dials panic.
Congratulations again Frenc! Iโve been told that I need to strengthen my glutes so that my hamstrings arenโt doing all the work so 100 squats a day at work would come in handy! I do some strength exercises at home but I find itโs really difficult to motivate myself to do them.
Thanks again SkiMonday. The squats are getting done but Iโm not reaping the benefit yet - if anything Iโm feeling stiffer during my runs. Iโm hoping any reward will kick in soon, at least I hope so! ๐
Doing 100 a day seems quite a lot if you're not used to them. We're a week into November now so I reckon your muscles should be more able to cope with them soon.
Congrats on your runniversary, Frenc! You have truly gone a LONG way since that first run! My runniversary is next week I think (have to look it up). I haven't reached as far as you, but am more than surprised at how far I have come and how much I like running! Couldn't have imagined it a year ago!
Ah thanks Evy, thatโs really kind! I canโt believe how far weโve come and that weโre both still running. Your posts have really helped and made me chuckle out loud so thanks for those too ๐.
Happy Runniversary Frenc, itโs strange looking back to how hard C25k felt at the time. You have done brilliantly in the last year . Enjoy the years ahead in your lovely local area.
Oh my goodness, some of those C25K runs were so hard! It is funny thinking back, isnโt it, how every single step is a journey to where you are now. Thank you for your kind words ๐. Ps I canโt seem to turn italics off ๐คฃ.
