Hi all just wanted to ask if anyone does spin classes on non running days? I have been doing this for 3 weeks now and I have to say that it does wonders for flushing my legs after the run the day before and on my run the day after my legs feel fresh and raring to go! I'm sure this is something you all know about but just wanted to share a non running exercise that really helps with recovery 😀 happy running all

Spin classes on non running days
I don’t do spin but it’s great exercise and a good complement to running, all that fast leg turnover can be replicated on a run!
I've never done a spin class, but I do like to ride on non run days. Keeps the legs moving without all the impact of running. I can't imagine how hot and sweaty I'd end up in a spin class, that has always been enough to put me off 😂
Cycling outdoors does sound like a pleasant experience, I might dust off my bike and give it a go, but I must admit I do like the adrenaline you get from a spin class
🙈🤣 I still always envisage something totally different every time I hear "spin class" that would involve becoming very dizzy!!! 🤣
Given the choice I would just run more but free time is not easy to come by 👎🏻
I am wading my way through a book entitled with what is, in my experience an oxymoron; “injury free running”. Mrs BC bought it for me. Is there a message there? One thing it does emphasise is the value of cross training which is easier on the legs than running (most things!). Apparently we are not well designed for high weekly mileages(defined as 48 miles plus) so supplementing our running with other stuff makes sense The trouble is, I just like running!! Today is swimming day; that helps to ease things up and we have a good laugh too. I am sure that spinning is really good cross training; well done for giving it a whirl.🙂
I really like running too, but you are right we need cross training, swimming sounds lovely! What I enjoy about the cross training days is that they make my runs even more enjoyable as I can feel the benefit, have a good laugh and swim 🙂
Not that I want to encourage you Beachcomber66 but I’m not sure Arthur Lydiard would agree. I’ve been reading his books over my holidays and I quote
“Running is without question, the best exercise for runners and, as long as we watch the degree of effort, we cannot really do to much of it”
I’ll let you know how I go with that 🤣
🙂 In fairness I have moved to 4 runs per week, but have rationed out the effort a bit more. I am not in any danger of hitting a 48 mile per week danger zone! After my swim my joints feel nice and loose, muscles are relaxed…and we had a good laugh too. Interval run next 👍
Well done Beachcomber66 👍🏻 That sounds great. I should be better at swimming as I’m now Australian 🤣
I really don’t like cross training though and only want to run. I’m hoping Arthur Lydiard is right as I run 5 or 6 times a week 👍🏻
Blimey 5/6 runs per week, what kind of mileage do you do each week?
Not much at the moment as I run pretty slow to keep in zone 2 for all my weekly run’s except one fast 5k at Park run. Strava has me at 40k as an average weekly. I hope my mileage will increase as I get fitter🤣
That's impressive 👍
That’s very kind but it’s all relative. Someone in my local run club has done 67k already this week. I’ve only been running just over a year but I genuinely love it. It’s my happy place. I’m also only able to run so much as a rookie runner as I keep it really easy most of the time ❤️🏃♀️
I too have only been running for a year, I was shocked (naively) at how long it took my body to run any mileage comfortably, but I enjoy it even more when I have those strong running days, and agree totally with you, its my happy place too 😀
I do and think it’s great for stamina when running! I do a couple spin classes a week with some bodypump- weights, squats, lunges etc.
