Arch support

Hi all

A quick question, is more or less arch support better?

I recently bought a new pair of shoes, which are fine size-wise and felt fine when I tried them on and for walking the dogs to break them in, but when I run, I end up with sore arches - I ran for 30 mins Tuesday and had really sore arches after.

I'm fairly sure it's not PF as I put my old shoes on today and it doesn't happen.

I felt inside and the arches in the new ones are a lot higher than my old ones

Should I crack on with the new shoes and just get used to them (over dog walks or such), or try a different pair?

Just not sure if my feet are aching cos my arches should be higher and aren't or if the shoes are just not a good fit yet for running.

Opinions?

I'm afraid those shoes don't sound right for you, I don't think it's a case of your feet not being right for the shoes!

I used to think extra arch support was good, but not anymore, it just doesn't suit my feet.

If you bought from a run shop they should exchange... 🀞🏻

Doesn't sound quite right to me - when my podiatrist gave me orthotics (for walking) she said that actually arch support is less important for overpronation than correcting the angle of the heel. She also said that it can take time to adjust to orthotics and to build up time wearing them gradually - but I wouldn't expect this with running shoes. Plus with a podiatrist I have much more faith that they have got it right, whereas running shops while good aren't anything like as skilled.

I don't think it's really a question of whether more or less arch support is better, it depends on what's right for your feet. Unfortunately those shoes don't seem to suit you. Hope you're able to exchange them.

Also, maybe I was just lucky, but I didn't have to break in my shoes at all, and tbh wasn't expecting to have to do so.

I had 3 pairs of shoes before I bought these - 2 normal road shoes (Decathlon own) and one pair of trail hybrid - Inov8 and I have never had to break them inThis time, I got another pair of Decathlon own, which I tried on and did a little jog in before I bought them, then walked the dogs twice in them with no ill effects, then ran in them and my arches were cramping when I took them off.

I'm just off the IC so I immediately thought I had done too much too quickly, but I tried my oldest shoes (that honestly have holes in the uppers I've worn them so much, hence the new pair...) and had no problems. I put my hand in each pair, and the new pair have a really high arch support, so I think my feet just didn't like running in them.

I'll keep them for dog walking, maybe I'll walk them in lol

Check to see if the insoles come out, might just be part of the insole and you can replace with a standard, flatter one 🀞🏻

Excellent advise πŸ‘...I also saved a pair of Β£90 running shoes by changing the insoles. Fluke while figuring them out, hadn't even known the insole was removable!
