⭐ At time of posting we have over thirty entries to the HM and over 40 to the 10k ⭐
★ ★ ★
It's not too late, the HU spring 2021 event is still OPEN for entries!!!
Half Marathon or 10k
Main event Sunday 28th March, 9.30am
(although for greater flexibility we will accept runs at any time on Sunday March 28th or at any point during the following week of Mon 29th March - Sat 3rd April)
★ We have now created a public playlist using all your suggestions. It’s currently available in both Spotify and Apple Music (the two most popular platforms according to our recent poll).
You can search for it by name: HU Spring 2021 event playlist or link to it from the internet:
or if you wish to set up your own version of the playlist on a different platform, you can find the list of tracks here: docs.google.com/document/d/...
Please comment below if you do set it up elsewhere, as it might be useful for someone else (for example Amazon was a common platform, but I wasn’t able to set up a public playlist with a temporary account).
★ We have produced a guide for using RunGoto access our ‘run experience’. These notes are based on my use on my own android phone and on downloading the app to my son’s iPhone; it is possible/likely that your phone may look a little different depending on your own set up, but hopefully the guides will be enough for you to get everything working!
Do have a read and get Rungo and the routes set up in advance of the event. There will be no need to create an account or register any personal details, but you will need your phone when you run.
★ We have created a ‘Try Me’ virtual 1k route so you can test RunGo out
We suggest you try a practice run in advance of your HM or 10k to make sure you are familiar with the tech! To do this we have created a short virtual route: HU spring 2021 1Kilometre Try Me which can be accessed via the web using this link routes.rungoapp.com/route/4...
Select and download that route and follow the instructions as outlined in the guide. Although this virtual route is only 1km long, you can keep running and it will quietly wait for you to press stop when you have finished your run!
If you have any issues when you try it out, please let us know as soon as possible. Chances are you won’t be the only person to hit the problem and it would be great to iron out any teething problems in advance.
---
Let us know how it’s all going.
Here's to a great week everyone, whether you're running, cross-training, tapering or resting - have fun and sleep well!!!
Only 9 sleeps to go ...

Ha ha this looks like a work out for my brain before a workout for my body 😂🤣But so far so good I've downloaded the app, never used it before and found the routes. I'm going to try the 1k route to see how it works this morning and will update you later.
Thanks for all the work that you guys must have put into this, it looks like it'll be a brilliant experience x 👍😊
Just back. I set it going while I walked my sons dog and it worked fine, partway through I added the play list through Spotify and it all worked well together . Although I did get a few odd looks as I couldn't help laughing at the comments 🤣😂🤣 especially the way the app delivers them!I'm using android by the way.
Sadly I couldn't see the sea from the middle of Yorkshire 🙁😂
I managed to get the RunGo trial to work this morning - tried to imagine the school playing fields really were the sea! Looking forward to what the 10k route will bring. Thanks so much for doing this - definitely a motivation to get back to the longer runs😊
Yeah me too. Living as far away from it as it’s possible to be get, the chance to run there makes the runs so much more enjoyable. Mind you I’ve had some vile weather 🙈
Brilliant linda9389 and roseabi ! 👏👏👏 I’ve downloaded the playlist to my Spotify all ready to rock and roll next weekend, and will have a play with RunGo tomorrow on my run. 😀
I was mighty relieved to see the playlist goes beyond 3 hours just in case I get hit with the same weather as last weekend! Nothing like running with tumbleweed! 😅
Thank you sooo much for all the hard work you’ve both put into this. Can’t wait! 😀 🥰
I tried the rungo (android) this morning and while it tracked my run I couldn't hear anything. I tried a second time with "play over music" enabled but still no dice. Will try again this afternoon.
I'm not familiar with anything Apple and am struggling to understand whether it is there or not!!! I have recreated it. I think I have set it to share and be searchable ... I have put the new link into the guide. When I sign out of Apple music and click that link the playlist appears so I'm hoping that means it should appear for anyone with the link. music.apple.com/gb/playlist... Let me know how you get on when you get chance.
Yay! Sorry I led you down a blind alley! This time I set up an extra 'thing' for sharing which must have made the difference. Fingers crossed it still works tomorrow!
This is just brilliant linda9389 and roseabi , many thanks for all your hard work 👍😀
I am currently panicking. I'm drowning in work and life admin, and shouldn't even be taking time out on the forum. I've not had chance to run since Tuesday, and the weather has turned horrible, with rain, sleet, snow and high winds.
Also, I'd planned to do the HUHM as a charity fundraiser, but my pack (with sponsor forms, running vest and bunny ears!) hasn't shown up, despite being sent out a month ago. I can only assume it was too much for post-Brexit Customs. The organisers are very kindly sending me another pack, so I'm hoping this will arrive and provide me with a much-needed kick up the backside.
I'm working tomorrow morning and most of the afternoon, though as our curfew is being moved back from 18.00hrs to 19.00hrs, I might be able to get out for at least a short run. Fingers crossed!
oh! Don't know where my reply to this went, sorry!
It sounds like everything is trying to conspire against you 😕 If the post-Brexit gremlins let your ears through in time then I think we deserve a photo! Hopefully that extra hour will make things a bit easier 🤞
Wow. It all seems very close now. It’s been said before but the amount of work you have put in organising this is amazing, thank you so much. I’ve downloaded the Spotify songs and will give Run go a whirl tomorrow morning. Thanks again and happy running 🏃♂️
Morning, I listened to the 1k test as I cooled down at the end of my run. No problems at all using an iPhone/Run Go/Spotify combo. I really liked it, even though it sounds like he is saying Hoop Hoop 😂. Great work!
Glad it all worked OK! Maybe it's whoop, whoop (my scottish OH pronounces the 'h' in 'wh' all the time)? He? You get a guy? Lucky you! I have a very robotic, straitlaced, unemotional lady!
What a marvellous playlist. Queen, Fisherman’s Friends, Underworld, Beyoncé and Squeeze, so eclectic, I am really looking forward to listening to all the ones I’m not familiar with. It’s almost enough to make me want to do the HM instead of the 10k....
Well done and thank you for the playlist. It’s a nice way to make us feel more connected.
Eclectic indeed ... and four out of the five artists you mention were all requested by the one person, who should probably remain nameless, right roseabi ?
Oops. No it was more a 'there, there... it'll be OK ... now that nasty thing has been locked away ... ' More patronising and condescending than lecturing 🤪🤣🤣🤣 Not sure that's any better 🤔🙊
Completely passed me by. Can I enter the hm please? I have been quietly training away and did 19km on Monday and am planning to run hm a week on Sunday. Will now investigate the tech. Plan was to run virtually with 2 of our sons. One in London and one in Rotterdam. Now it might be getting a bit bigger! Looking forward to joining you all. John
Definitely, I'll add you to the start list now. I love that you're planning to run it virtually with your sons, but as you say the run entry has just grown a bit! 🤣
Hi Linda 9389, Roseabi and lovely running friends! I’ve used the RunGo ‘Try Me’ virtual 1K route without any problems this morning, plotted myself a little route to the seafront using RunGo (which worked well), and plotted my entire HM route for next Sunday too! I’m feeling very proud of myself 😊
Brilliant, really glad it worked for you. Are you intending to use RunGo to follow the HM route you just mapped out next Sunday? When you start up RunGo next week, you will have an an either/or choice of the virtual HM route we have set up OR the HM route you have set up. That's why I ended up having both RunGo and Komoot running side by side today - Komoot was telling me where to go on my 'real' route, and RunGo was taking me away from it all and chatting away about the virtual route. Thankfully I have a new phone and can report that I had over 75% battery left despite running Spotify, Rungo AND Komoot for a rather slow 18k (over 2 hours) this morning. Result!
Thanks Linda, I think I’m going to use the route I’ve planned with the HUHM playlist on Spotify. I’ve got a power pack to keep my phone charged which fits into my Free Train vest with the phone. It worked perfectly fine the other week when I ran my final 18K long run so I’m hoping it’ll be fine this time too! 🙂🤞
Eek, thank you so much for this!!! I've just downloaded both apps.
Will have a go with Run Go on a shorter run later in the week but am just about to head out for my 12 mile run so exited to be able to try out the HU Spring 2021 Event Playlist ahead of time 🤗...assuming as I'm on a free Spotify account I'll get ads but I'll soon find out.
Let's hope the fun of new music and knowing you lovely folks have chosen the tunes will help to make the run that little bit easier 🏃♀️👍
It was brilliant Linda, worked well...yes there were ads but not too many, the one that got me to check I wasn't having a stroke came on twice 😳, maybe they were concerned about my vitals 😆The songs were a great mix, Elvis' song brought a smile to my face when he sung about feeling my temperature rising which was true, but a hunk a hunk a burning love?!...more of a sweaty mess by that point 😅
I'm probably too late but if you're adding any more then the ones that keep me keeping on are: Hey ya by Outkast, Happy by Pharrel Williams and Titanium by David Guetta 👍
Brilliant! The more we laugh the more chance we'll make it to the finish line I reckon 😀 Titanium is already on there somewhere, Happy I loathe (but if I can check my headphone buttons so I know how to skip a song, then I'll allow it 😂🙉 - actually no it's not that one, it's another by him or possibly by Bruno Mars that I hate - I think every other human being loves it, but not me ... thankfully the name of that song escapes me just now 😂😂😂) and I'll add the other too 👍
This all sounds amazing Linda - many thanks for all your hard work with this.🙂🙏 I have had a couple of running blips recently - first an IT band niggle (now settled) and then as I had just got back to running after a week off, a rare flare up of sciatica, which has now thankfully settled. Today, was my first run in 10 days and it was so good to be out again! All this means I am way behind in my training, so I won’t be ready for the HM on Saturday.😕 Can you move me to the 10k please and if my back stays good I will run this instead.👍🙂
Oh poor you - so frustrating! But the comeback runs are all the sweeter for all that frustration aren't they? I will move you across just now. Take care 😊
Morning Thank you for all the amazing work you've put into this- it really helps to bring the event to life.
I spent yesterday afternoon working out an hm route that avoids country lanes with no pavement. My intention was to try it out at 9am this morning along with the Rungo app and the playlist. However, as I'm sat up in bed drinking coffee this clearly hasn't happened!
I started my hm training too late and would really like to get another long run in before next week. I do hope the legs hold out, they are quite happy lying in bed this morning! 😀😀
Haha! I know that feeling ... If you didn't manage a long run today, maybe you're better leaving it now until you run the whole thing? Many plans only take you as far as 16km and leave the remainder for the adrenaline of event day. Fresh legs may do a better job of extending the distance than tired ones. You have options! Although staying in bed rather than running is not really one of them!!!
😂😂 coffee in bed was a lovely treat! My legs were tired on my long run today, so I'm definitely going to ease up this week. You've made a brilliant recovery 👏👏 all set for next week 😀
Oh wow! You have both been working really hard on this. I shall install RunGo tonight and have a nosey. Looked at the playlist this morning. Might not be able to use as Katnap and I usually chat away until we get to the latter stages but it’ll be fun to use for other runs.
Did our in between HMs LSR today. 10 miles. Lots more elevation than last week’s Bath Half so more tiring but psychologically it was a big boost as I have finally broken the 10 mile thing - 10 miles now feels like how 10k used to feel which is exactly what I’ve been trying to achieve for the past year 😀
Really looking forward to next Sunday. Have fun everyone 👍👍👍
I had my usual tech malfunction initially...tried out Rungo and playlist on my 2km walk...no voice over, realised after that I had tracked my own route and not set it to “virtual” 🤦🏻♀️
So...for my 5km on Sunday, I went for the real thing and pleased to say that “boom boom” I officially got halfway around the Edinburgh 10km 😂
No problems...I had Rungo, Spotify, Strava and Fitbit all running 👍
One question...is there anyway to change the voice? It’s given me the same bloke who talks to me on Strava!
Well done! I'm afraid I haven't managed to change the voice. I have a woman but I noticed it was a man on my hubbie's iPhone. They are both as bad as each other I'm afraid ... no human touch to be heard!!! Whether there is a way to change the voice in general phone settings rather than in the app, I'm not sure? I haven't found a way to influence it on my android phone. Here's to Sunday!!!
I just looked a little further into settings. I have a samsung android phone. In settings there is a text to speech option. I can choose the 'engine' - either the default Samsung or I can change it to Google. Samsung has a UK female or various foreign language females, but switching to Google has given me a choice of seven English voices, some male some female. I've changed to a Google male ... but whether Rungo will actually pick that up remains to be seen. I'm not running til Thursday so I'll have to be patient - or maybe I'll put it on at work tomorrow 😀
Well I ran 9km this morning so I should be ready for 10km next week. I used the Jeff Galloway 3:1 and managed 73.49, which is 21 seconds slower than my only official 10km (I have only run that distance 3 times) so I am happy with that. It won't be a pb but that's ok.Undecided whether to Jeff again to keep me focused, or just run and see what happens.
Brilliant! If you use our virtual race on RunGo there may be enough in there to keep you focused. Never say never to a PB ... little bit if race magic ... who knows 😊
The way we have it set up, it will be a bit like listening to a podcast or Laura from C25K ... only the talking will only play when you reach certain distances. If you have music started as well, then that will play in between the stuff we have set up for you to listen to.
