Question for London Marathoners/spectators - past or present.🏃🏽🏃‍♀️🏃🏽🏃‍♀️

My husband was lucky enough (?😏) to get a ballot place in this years London Marathon in October.

Having recovered from the shock of a) actually getting a place and b ) the enormity of the task ahead, he is now starting to think about the practicalities - and in particular booking somewhere to stay the night before.

Now, we aren’t that far from London, so another option would be to drive up and park somewhere, although if we can, I think an overnight stay would be better.

What are your thoughts and any tips on where might be a good place to stay or alternately, park? Thank you.🙂

Ha, don't do what I did! I stayed in a hostel in Lewisham, and it was awful!!!

I do think it's nice to be near the start (the hostel was 10 minutes walk from Blackheath), but actually it's not difficult to get to Blackheath from other parts of London, and the race starts pretty late. So maybe just look for the simpler Tube routes to the start and find a hotel based on that? Also, you will want to find a good spot to be a spectator, and meet up with him afterwards too, so you might be better off saying somewhere nearer to there. You also have to go to the ExCel Centre (or wherever registration will be this year) at some point in the days before the race to pick up his race number, so bear that in mind too!
