Hey hey hey!!!

A big "HEY!" to everyone who's just joined this lovely community, and a "hey what's up?!" to the rest of you 😁 Tell us your news!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've had quite a break from running this past week, I'd been spending tΜΆoΜΆoΜΆ ΜΆmΜΆuΜΆcΜΆhΜΆ quite a lot of time recording my flute exam, and I've also been feeling pretty manky with a cold (how? how? did I catch a cold???), so I ended up just doing one run, an easy 7 km on Saturday.

I'm not bothered though, sometimes it's good to take a chill pill and realise that running can wait! Maybe some of you can't even get out much at the moment anyway? Locked down and/or stuck on the Injury Couch? I'm hatching plans for my next marathon - a speedy solo Spring seafront session 😊 It could happen, going to start easing into training soon anyway. 2021 is coming up fast, but for now it's nice just to dream a little!

What are you dreaming about lately? 🀩

As always, if you're new here, or just taking a look and getting comfortable before posting, hello! This post is a great place to introduce yourself if you're ready to do so.

Running, resting, walking, cycling, kung fu... whatever you're up to have a great week, everyone!!!

The Marathon Team xxx

Hi roseabi and lovely running friends! I hope you're all keeping well and managing to get out when you can for a bit of exercise.

I've been concentrating on getting the miles in for my LEJOG challenge - so far I'm just over 300 miles towards virtual John O'Groats. It's a great challenge, so well organised and the Facebook group are very supportive too.

I ran 10K on Saturday for Mo-Running (the running version of Movember), to raise awareness of men's health. That left me 6 miles short of 300 for LEJOG, so of course I had to get out again. I did another 6K on Saturday afternoon and an additional 5K on Sunday for (not)Parkrun. Not that it was important, but the 10K was in 1:02:29 and the 5K in 0:28:39 so I was very pleased with those.

This week I'm going to concentrate on running more slowly to avoid risk of injury by overdoing things. I'm enjoying reading '80/20 Running' by Matt Fitzgerald when I'm not running so that's what I'm trying to follow. It's surprisingly difficult to run slowly though!

Other than that, I've got most of my Christmas shopping done online which I'm super-pleased about 😊

Have fun everyone!

Great work, David. I know what you mean about adjusting your running pace, it's harder than you think! I am in awe of the fact you have done your "C" shopping.... we have a flurry of Autumn birthdays until early November in our family so never even think about Christmas until those are out of the way!

Good stuff, David! I always feel a bit silly running slowly πŸ˜‚

Morning! Your post came at just the right time, as I refocus on my running again. I've not run for a couple of weeks - half term away with the family (yey!) and then helping my Mum move house last week ahead of lockdown means things have been a bit crazy! Finally got out for a quick trot this morning to remind my legs how they work.....

Back to work, kids still at school, some "normal" routine being restarted. Not dreaming of much to be honest, just getting through the next weeks without ending up isolating will be a bonus. A bit sad that it's come to that, but there we are.

I am, however, looking for my next virtual race - another 10k soonish and a HM in the Spring is my target. So that's something to aim for at least!

I did get another medal at least, a couple of weeks ago, Town & Gown 10k!

Pleased to hear it!! Running will wait. I am having a post run energy fix now; home made lemon meringue pie, made with real lemons, of course, and condensed milk. Hello!

Good luck with the Flute exam roseabi - I can’t imagine a cold makes the flute any easier never mind running!!

Like many others - the postman (he’s a nice chap, we often chat) has just brought me my Vitality 10k medal and top so that’s hopefully the first of many. Looking forward to running with actual people at some point next year but for now I’m just plodding along around Southend on Sea as has become usual this year!

Probably could do with a new β€˜goal’ to keep me going and motivated so I’m very interested in anything you may plan for December based on the suggestion of relay/2020 themed things to see the year out.

Thank you for the good wishes!! xxx

What a clever cat to win all those medals roseabi. And good luck with your flute exam.

I had a great October, in which I ran 10k after far too long, run the virtual vitality with awesome buddies to get lovely bling and my 2nd favourite race shirt, and almost completed my running bingo card.

So November sadly means a stop to our post ( not) parkrun breakfast with Southsea buddies, but there’s nothing to stop us (not) running around the same time and herring each other on.

My challenge for November is β€˜My Poppy Run’ where me and UpTheStanley will run 10k and Oldgirlruns will run 5k in aid of the Royal British Legion. We will be doing this in poppy shirts on Armistice Day to finish before 11.00.

Happy running everyone

I’ve been having a rest week too, after my half marathon excitement last week, and have also managed to come down with a cold. Feeling a bit devoid of a goal right now, so I am going to focus on trying to achieve 800km (500 miles) running by the end of the year. Only another 50k to go, so not too much pressure and hopefully I can enjoy it.

Hi roseabi hope your health improves and the flute exam goes well. I started in June 2019. Mentioning my age then of 73 you replied age is just a number. A comment that's kept me running - thanks.

Went through the stage of everything planned. Now its roughly street runs of 5k - 10k - 5k with 2 days rest inbetween, ok maybe 1 day sometimes. To break the routine I do different versions of those - just a run as in no watch, easy, hard, interval, hills and a mixture. Time is ok (for me) 32/34 mins for 5K and 70 mins for 10k ( I select at 7K how easy or hard to make the last 3K to finish on time) The result is I'm starting to enjoy running now, in the past it was don't like running but like the benefits. Next target do away with the watch more times.

Keep doing well

I have memories of one of my offspring learning flute. (Note the word fond does not precede memories.) It's a bit like listening to someone learning violin. Then they start to get quite good. About grade 5 and 6 it becomes a pleasure to listen to until mid teenage when they give up and swear never to play again.

And why does that cat look like it's tripping.

I've been too lethargic lately - I've been running and covering the distances, but cant really be bothered putting in a great deal of effort or energy.

So, I cast my mind back to C25K days and the sheet determination and motivation I had then, and gave myself a good talkin to. I am now working on improving my pace and pushing myself that little bit more on 5k and 10k runs.

My pace seems to be improving and I am enjoying this new challenge. 😊

An enforced break here after a funny turn about 10 days ago.

Still waiting for an MRI to determine if it was stroke or hemiplegic migraine. Delay is due to not being able to find out what my stapedectomy prosthesis (replacement ear bone) is made of and whether it is MRI compatible.

On the plus side, blood tests showed I have normal liver function, no inflammatory markers, normal blood count and excellent kidney function for my age!

Hope your exam results are all you hoped for rosabi! When do you find out how you did?

We've had some very different weather lately. Snow and -12 with layers one day, and +16 sunshine and shorts the next. It's made for some amazing trail runs. I've started to explore some of my favorite spots again and last week had a run through a quiet wood when we were surprised by a group of deer passing by, then we found a little baby Brown Snake. This week we tried a different location and it was just as beautiful but with so many hills that my running pal felt like tackling, including a ski hill twice at the front and back of a 20k - I think he's setting up for something big as he is turning 40 next year. Got my hill training in spite of my best efforts. As for goals/dreams, I still have my entrance for next years deferred Sticks N Stones 50k, and so that's something to work towards again. Other plans are still up in the air.

I expect to do 4 runs this week. I have a lot of work on, especially today, so I swapped my long run today for this week's speed run. I've been doing intervals for the last few weeks, and I'm 20 seconds away from my (not)parkrun PB from July.
