The last couple of years have seen me come back from an injury that left me with nerve damage and foot drop in the very early days. Building up my mileage was slow and the injury left me with a gait weakness and altered pronation that resulted in knee problems. I persisted - it's what we do. ๐คทโโ๏ธRunning means the world to me.๐๐ I would have settled for getting out for a few short runs a week but deep down I wanted to be back where I used to be - and up to HM distance again.
So I just kept on running; extra rest days when the knee niggled and then running again! I discovered my Magic Hoka Arahi's ๐๐ and the knee niggled less. I was able to run more...and further! ๐
So today I did it - my first HM distance since 'way back when'! A mixture of road and trails on a beautiful autumn day.๐๐๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ
When everything else feels out of control, running grounds me and makes me feel strong (although if you'd seen my last couple of km today...! ๐๐). It didn't matter that it was the slowest HM time I've run - it was pretty much what I thought I would run - and it mattered just as much as crossing the line in a big race. ๐
Enjoy your running everyone - and if you're going through a period of injury or illness or just coming back from one - keep believing in yourself because we are far stronger than we think.๐
The photo is a picture of the Virtual Runner Autumn HM medal that I signed up for a while back. Gotta love a hedgehog!๐๐

What a lovely post Sandraj39 and very well done for persevering. WooHoo, you did it!!๐๐๐๐
Running teaches us so much about ourselves and life in general๐ Congratulations on an excellent run๐โโ๏ธ and for all of your hard work getting there!๐ช๐ช Time for a celebration I think ๐ฅณ๐พ๐ฅ
Brilliant Sandra! Congratulations. Its great you found those magic Hokas when you did. I know exactly what you mean about running grounding you. Sounds like a fittingly lovely run and that is a nice piece of bling to remember it by.
Ahh, that's fabulous! There really is nothing sweeter than getting back to a place you once thought would be impossible to reach again. You can't hide from the fact that you have conquered an amazing physical challenge and an even more amazing mental one. Just wonderful. Rest, relax and reflect on all that you have achieved. You star!!!
I certainly know how great it is to comeback to a place you hardly dared dream about. It almost (but no, probably not quite) makes it worth the injury time ๐
Well done and a truly inspirational post. You are an example to everyone coming back from an injury; you persevered and believed in yourself!
Many congratulations on your half marathon! I can see how much it means to you and you deserve this success. You are amazing! ๐๐๐๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐
Fantastic Sandra. So pleased to see you back where you belong. Coming back from some injuries requires a lot of determination and commitment ...,,you clearly have large dollops of both, and still find time to help fellow sufferers along. Just brilliant ๐ฅ๐โโ๏ธ๐๐ฅ๐๐๐๐
Wow! What a beautiful post. I'm really in awe of people like you. Love what you say about running and totally agree. I'm so pleased you made it today! It's a real milestone distance and the last few miles can be tough. You got there today and you deserved it. Your title says it all and the comeback was most definitely bigger than the setback ๐๐๐๐ฅ
Thanks GTFC - wasn't sure whether to go for it today or not but I had a good couple of runs earlier in the week and just decided to go for it! Apart from tired legs in the last couple of k, I felt pretty good! ๐
I really like this because all the best preparation in the world doesn't always mean race day will be too. Going how you feel and having the bravery to commit and challenge is just everything.
You thoroughly deserve that wonderful run Sandra. Youโve been so patient and look how it paid off today! Iโm so happy for you. ๐ฅฐ๐๐๐โโ๏ธ
Wonderful Sandra..so happy for you to have made that distance again after dealing with those injury problems. ๐ช๐Congratulations on a great run. ๐
I am making my come back, and will be happy when I am able to run for 30 mins again, I believe that I can do it and maybe, just maybe will be running 10k again in the New Year...๐ค๐โโ๏ธ๐xxx
You've got it, Sandra, well done! And remember, unless you're putting everything on line to qualify for the Olympic trials, do not stress about times. It's distance that matters. And stubbornness, perseverance as well as self belief. With a pinch of hard work. You've got all that covered! ๐๐๐
Thatโs fantastic Sandraj39 after all that patience and hard work to get back to where you were must feel great especially with all those barriers to get through. Now rest those HM legs for a while youโve earned it. Brilliant stuff well done ๐๐๐
Whoo hoo Sandra. When the going got tough you just kept going. Well done on your half marathon. Itโs great to see everyone reaching that distance as a result of the HUHM initiative.
Sounds like you had to battle much harder than we did Sandra! Congratulations on your HM and hereโs to many more. And I think we all totally understand where you are coming from about running keeping you grounded, I know I do ๐๐๐๐๐๐ช๐ช
So lovely to read this after my fall (gardening) which caused a tibial fracture, meniscus tear, very large Baker's cyst, cellulitis and unexplained lumps, no running yet, but my GP has given me the telephone number for physiotherapy. I look forward to that first run ...
Many congratulations to you, just brilliant! I'm not really a bling person, but that Autumn medal is lovely!
