Wish me luck....?!

Eeeek.... long post, sorry 😞

I haven’t posted about this yet.... not sure why, maybe I’m trying not to make it serious! I last ran nearly 3 weeks ago 🥺 Ended my run early with a very sore knee... rested and ice for 3 days.... no better. Lots of internet research and I believed I had hurt the tendon that joins kneecap to shin... another day or two in pain (walking, sitting, sleeping, up and down stairs) unable to straighten leg properly.... so, made a sports physio appointment... felt anxious about this... I don’t ‘feel’ like I’m a runner or an athlete... should I be going?!? Anyway, she was brilliant, said I have improved muscles through running (on the outside of leg) which have pulled me kneecap sideways 😳 Have had exercises to strengthen muscles on inside of leg... seeing physio again this afternoon.

Should have been running New Forest HM in two weeks, they’ve moved the date and I can’t make it. 😞 However, very happy to do the virtual run instead😁 (my first ever HM, no idea where I will run instead🤷‍♀️) Actually cried real tears when I discovered I have until end of December to complete....

so, luck needed.... hoping physio will say I can run again (knee still ‘uncomfortable’ not painful, still can’t straighten leg completely....😳) and SO hoping I will make HM distance in time to get bling and t shirt.... longest run to date is 10 miles....

If you read this far. Thank you!!

Oooh exciting! Fate is on your side 🙂 You have lots of time to get that knee sorted and get some training in. Ask the physio this pm about expected recovery and when you can run and just heed their advice.

You’ve got the 10 miles done so a little gentle training will get you ready for your start line. Good luck and keep us updated 🍀

You can do it! There is time for sure and you can begin to build up to it. Good luck and keep us posted. This time can be one for strengthening and stretching which is equally important 😊

Time is definitely on your side. Get your knee sorted and you're already up to 10 miles a HM is just a parkrun away. Good luck 🤗🤞🤞

Poor you but sports physios are great and they really do want to get you active again. Hope you get reassurance and your appointment and are able to return to running working up to that half marathon by the end of the year. Happy running 🤗

Great to have a revised goal to keep you going. Lots of time. Lots of focus. And a physio regime already started - the signs are good! (Some HM training plans don't take you beyond 10 miles anyway).. wishing you every good luck with your exercises and rebalancing 😊

Sorry to hear this Mummy23. I wish you all the best with your physio exercises- there’s nothing like getting a bit of expert advice so that you don’t continue to make matters worse.

I was meant to be doing the NFM 10k but as recovering from the IC I cannot do it either. I was going to downgrade to 5k but it’s a different day to my husband’s 10k so have sold my place and will apply again next year. Loved it in 2019. It’s good to know you’ll get a T-shirt and medal for your virtual run.

I’m sorry you won’t get to do your race this year. 😞 I’ve said I will only run a HM once.... but I have a feeling I too may apply for next year... sort of feel like I will only really feel like I’ve run a HM when it actually happens at an actual event! But, determined that I will do the distance this year!

Yes you’ve got to experience the real atmosphere of the New Forest Marathon next year. It is so much fun.

Is it flat? ... do they do HM? Asking for a friend? 😊

It’s a trail with undulations in the St Giles House Estate. They do FM, HM , 10K, and 5k. Get them to check out New Forest Marathon Website. People who can’t make it are selling their places on a Facebook page. I can send you a link if you need it.

They can’t do this year but tempted by the HM in January.... not sure about the weather though that time of year.

Not sure about one in January. This team only runs one in the New Forest in September.

Thank you all for your replies and good luck wishes! 😁

I’ve been to physio, she was really pleased with the progress and said that if I had a race to run in a weeks time, she would strap my knee, I would run and we would deal with the consequences after! However, as I can choose to run at a later date, recovery first is a better idea! So, still no running yet, but she has said that exercise bike is a really good idea... at least I can do something which will make me sweaty and feel like I’ve done some exercise!! (And I can feel less guilty about eating the same but not running! 😳) I have to continue the exercises I’ve been doing and I go back in two weeks time...which is the day I travel to the New Forest (we’ve decided to go and use the accommodation we had booked for HM anyway) so hopefully my first run post sore knee will be at the New Forest anyway 😁😁 (Not HM distance obvs🤣🤣) Am staying positive and believe I can do it and just over the moon that the virtual race has a long enough time for me to get back to distance and nail it!! 🤩

Hoping for good news for you ... you have time on your side too. Plotting a route will be exciting. I know mine would avoid hills and be the flattest of flattest routes ever ran 😀

Oh yes.... definitely flat!! Have even found a potential which is predominantly a gentle downhill all the way 🤣 I only agreed to do NF (with my bro) as it’s flat.

That’s even better 😂. Love it. Tempted by NF in 2021 if it’s flat 👍
