There was interest in running all the distances proposed, and I think it would be fun to run 2 or 3 virtual runs at each distance.
I think it would be best to give a week to complete each run, but of course if anyone wants to run at exactly the same time you can arrange that amongst yourselves.
Please comment below with the weeks (commencing Mondays) that are best for you - I have indicated the months in which the runs will take place:
β 5K August
β 10K late August - September
β 10 Miles September
β Half Marathon late September - October
We will post pom poms for you, and publish your results! Should be fun πππ
Hi, thanks for the reply. If you could add me to list that would be greatπ I didnβt have any race details added.
I found out the other day that the Croydon 10K is cancelled for this yearπ’ so these virtual challenges will have to see me through to next year I thinkπ
I am still on my enforced July no running (it is tough), last run was 25th June. Have done 3 weeks of cycling followed by a great week of long walks. Next week back to cycling.
I should be ready to run 5km tune up the week of 10th August. Will then decide on the date for 10km.
Looking forward to running again. ππ½ββοΈππ½ββοΈ
Hi roseabi , Iβm pretty much flexible any time, and Iβd definitely like to run all the distances twice, with the exception of HM, which I want to do again, but just the once! π Call me a lightweight ...... π€£
Hello Roseabi, I meant to respond to your previous post but doesnβt look like I did.
I wanted to put in for 5k in August and 10k In September at the New Forest marathon. I have a slight problem with my Achilles at the moment but Iβm hoping that a week off and calf exercises will improve that situation. I need a shoe assessment too, which may have contributed to the problem.
So please put me down and I will run if able to do so.
If you say 17 August for 5k, and 20 September for 10k. My real new Forest marathon is on 13 September but Iβm not sure I will get to 10k by then now. It could be the first race in the country since lockdown so π€
Hi - I love the idea of a few runs and at the different distances listed. Especially with the flexibility of a week to complete. In this case it doesnβt really matter to me which week each is scheduled for in their respective month etc as I can plan around the dates once known. Thanks this really helps with motivation and having something to run for - we are lucky to have both you and linda9389 helping us!
I'm guessing my privacy settings on strava need to be set to 'everyone' for both "activities" and "group activities" so that my runs are visible to everyone on the strava Hu group. Is that right?
I'm still running - 16.5k on Sunday and 5k yesterday. However motivation and speed is at an all time low. I need a boot!
Hi Sorry I didn't vote in the poll but I'd like to join in with all of the virtual run distances too all being well, in whatever weeks you decide, sounds like fun
As long as twinges don't turn into injuries (couple of twinges but I'm stretching, rolling and being careful) then all going well I should be doing my HM end Aug.
So I can do the 5K anytime in August, 10K is probably out for me unless I take a fall back week and do a shorter "long run".
As for 10 miles and HM in Sept/Oct...who knows, maybe it'll go so well at the end of August I'll join in and do a 3rd HM. That would be the perfect scenario π
Last Sunday I did manage to run 17.07km time 2h5m (my comfortable steady pace) . I didnβt set out to go this far but kept going wrong and had to back track on myself. (I would attach a pic of my Strava but fail miserably on the IT side of things to be able to do this) Note to self, get a clear route worked out next time. I did stop for a drink/snack a few times as it was hot.
During my run, I developed a pain in my left side, which really hindered me. Iβm not sure what caused this it feels like a pulled muscle at the bottom of my rib and is tender to the touch. It does feel as though itβs slowly improving but canβt run at the moment as itβs too painful. Has anyone else experienced this before? Amazingly feet and legs were tired but in good shape!
Oh that sounds good roseabi! I need some motivation. Big10k has just been cancelled and I've decided I really can't be bothered just running it virtually for the same bling I got last year (it was very nice bling though) - I need the roar of the (socially distanced) crowd and people to overtake to get any speed on and satisfaction. 2021 it is for that one as well then. Potentially going to be a cheap year for entrance fees next year (all being well π€π€π€).
So, I don't really have a plan at the moment to be honest, this time I'm just going with the flow, pushing it a bit each week with the occasional drop back week. I haven't let my fitness levels drop much from my HM in April (thank you Katnap , Joe Wicks & Adriene Mishler!) so they should build up fairly quickly again. However, if you're putting a date in there that gives me an extra push.
I can fit in any week for the 5 & 10k (although I was thinking I could choose my fastest ones from August but that's not really keeping in with the spirit of it really...). So, if I pick a week...like O505k w/c 10th August sounds good to me. I could (officially) do 5k that week and 10k the following week? And if I aim for 10 miles on the day the Big10k should have taken place (6th September) it gives that day a bit of a buzz and an excuse to eat lots. Then I'm thinking, build up to HM for w/c 5th October?
Hopefully my body will be in a good mood, it's been a bit tetchy lately.
Have consulted the plan! I donβt think Iβll be ready for the HM distance until towards the end of October (w/c 19th or 26th) but I know most people are ahead of me so if itβs earlier than that Iβll do my own thing!
5k either w/c 3rd or 10th August
10K w/c 31st August gets my vote
10 miles w/c 14th or 28th September
Iβm taking a break this week as Iβm working really long days and had a bit of a twinge in my left ankle last week. But I did do my first sub 30 min 5K a few days agoππΌββοΈπ₯³ so hoping to come back stronger!
Sounds good to me too! I'm less of a slave to my plan this time around (whether that's because I feel more confident or because I doubt Oxford HM will happen I'm not sure), so would be happy with pretty much any dates. If I get lucky and my 10k and HM races actually go ahead, that will be a bonus - whether they match HU virtual race dates or not! So count me in please π
I will most likely be ready for a HM the end of October . If most people are looking to do it earlier I will just do it later. For the other virtual runs anytime works for me.
Hiya all, if there's virtual bling, I'm in! Any week for 5k/10k, late September HM would be great for me. I'm in a bit of a sulk, not sure why......perhaps a combo of races cancelled, no Parkrun, injury flare up and having to take on Mummy duties for 2 sons who really should be old enough to sort their stuff out............oooo sorry, that's why I'M FED UP!
Just been for a dog jog though, feeling more positive now.
Hiya roseabi, if I stick to and can manage my plan then I am looking at 12 Sept onwards for my maiden voyage into HM but, life frequently gets in the way so I will be flexible! I'm aiming to achieve a HM between 1st Sep and 30th Nov for the virtual runners autumn HM medal, their winter one is 1 Dec to 28th Feb but dark mornings and nights...not good for me so get in early I think...π€
