I will post WEEKLY (Tuesday) updates, and put all the results into my spreadsheet (calculating the changes in your running/jumping times from Week 1 in seconds) which you can view here:
I am a tad pleased as I managed an outside run again.... and I don't know whether to add this week's time here now or wait to see if I can improve on it
You posted a time to the Week 2 post, and I have added it - do you want it left on? Or do you want to use it as your first run? There is a massive discrepancy between those routes...
Fabulous! So I have added your 1 km at 4:39 as your first run, so you will get two attempts to better it in the challenge - next week and the week after xxx
Go you MW, the marathon runner, sprinter and grower of all things ❤️.No more leggy cabbages for me, come to think of it no more leggy anything for me.🙈🤔🤣🤣
Hi Roseabi, hope you are keeping well and thanks again for all you do for us!
I did my 1km in 5:29, as part of my second fastest 5k ever. After a week where I was struggling with a lot of runs, I really enjoyed this one. To the point that I didn't stop and take photos of the cows for strava after the segment, I just kept running!
Gaining 2 seconds on last week's flat out effort was very unpleasant 🤢
I was convinced I couldn't do better and that that mental attitude, together with obvious physical limits (and a headwind in the mid section) would result in a slower time this week. It turns out I'm stupidly competitive 🙄. I might give it a miss next week as the pressure is getting too much 🤪🤪🤪
Slightly stronger wind behind, marginally faster time, dodgy pace judgement. Given the accuracy limits of what can be extracted from the Garmin track, I apparently did the first 100m in 20 secs (3'20"/k pace), which was insane if true. My 250m splits were 58, 65, 66, 58 secs giving me a new PB of 4'07".
But it felt pretty good and gives me hope I could still improve it fractionally next week, if I can just get the start right (and the wind is kind). The warmup was into the wind which made it easy to keep the pace down and save myself for the flying k after I turned round. Dexy5 provided invaluable cycle support, which I'm going to miss when she starts running again.
Mornin all. Wobble reporting in. I was here yesterday! It was all echoey. Hellllllllooooo to no-one 🤷♀️ 😁. I checked around, and found I was on the wrong day. Tuesday is the day. It was writ large 🤓☺️
I shuffled off stage left
Here we go then. Not as good as but no matter. I did it 😃👍🏃♀️
My fastest 1k today was 4:53, but it was downhill mostly, so not sure it counts! I generally getting a bit quicker but I’m focussing a lot on hills (or what pass for hills around here). Anyway, I’ll see if I can get any quicker over the next week or so 😎
I could’ve sworn I replied to this already! No improvement for me with 4:54 in the last km on Monday. Heavy legs after a heavy mileage week and Sundays 25k are the culprits I think. So 4:40 is still my best. Good luck everyone!
Here's my week 3 result - flatlining at 5:06 again.
It was a strange run, not really up for it, forgot to start my watch, then got into the swing of it. My 1km segment starts just over 2 miles into the route. I am always worried about conking out before the end (it's uphill) but I think I need to give it a bit more welly at the beginning.
Hope I don't go too mad and flatline myself of course (great film)!
Today was my 2k comeback run following 17 day lay off with a swollen knee. I decided not to push my luck! Things feel ok. At the last minute I decided to put on some KT tape just to help keep things stable. I think I will leave it on until it drops off (the tape rather than the knee hopefully!). Negative splits 🤣🤣, least slow being 6:43. Maybe I will push that up a bit later in the week if all feels good. What is it about me that people feel they can advise me to stop running ? It happened again today. I told him that despite my calm exterior, comments like that made me feel like taking his walking stick and doing something unmentionable with it! All done with a laugh and smile....😬
I once was called a "fruitcake" by an old chap! Can't win 'em all 😄
Well done! I think I should put this as your starting run because it doesn't really relate to your week 1 pre-injury result of 5:31 - what do you think?
That's fine with me roseabi. Any improvement I make will be coincidental any way. I won't be running faster than 5:31, that's for sure. Fruitcake???? Clearly lost his marbles!! The bloke this morning compounded his sin by going down the guilt trip route, asking if our dog was missing out on walks because of my running....The answer is that she isn't, she has had fantastic 6k plus hill walks in the woods every day through lockdown despite my knee. Sorry..just letting off steam! A BOF, boring old....put your own noun in.😊
Thank you UTS. I really struggle with getting under 25 for parkrun and by that, I mean it really hurts. I just can’t seem to do it very often and when I do it feels like I’ve been through a ringer. 😖
I have no idea. 😂 Interesting thought though at my age. 😬😂🤔
Actually I was curious to find out what the criteria are and I found this
“ two 1.5-mile runs (2.4 km) on a treadmill, the first to be completed within 12 minutes 30 seconds, the second within 10 minutes and 30 seconds, with 1 minute of rest in between. “
This has to be doable and I reckon UpTheStanley and I, plus anyone else up for it, should have a go! It’ll no doubt kill me in the process mind 😅
I can manage the first bit OK, but 4’12”/k pace for 2.5k when my recent best is 4’07’ for 1 - I don’t think so! Marginally more chance on a treadmill with it setting the pace.
Anyway, I was in the Navy, so why would I want to join the Marines? 😀
UpTheStanley took great pride in running the RN fitness test every year at the recruitment qualification speed. Then one year the PTI wouldn’t let UTS do it because he was a certain age. It didn’t stop him doing it on his own though!
Hi Roseabi, my week 3 result has see another improvement to 5.40 I am going to see if I can get under 5.30 by the end. Still happy with how it's going as I haven't been under 30 minutes on my 5k time for over 6 months.
Thank you I really didn’t think I was going faster than last week and almost cried when I saw my result. This challenge is really boosting my efforts for sure.
Virtual parkrun for me incorporating the speed challenge. Sadly 2 seconds slower than last week at 5.20 😢 I decided to run the whole thing rather than vary my pace and the first 500m was at 5.09 pace, then I faded. Parkrun in 30.44 which was a whole minute slower than last week too. Oh well, you can’t win them all and I’ve got 2 more attempts.
Super Speedy Sandie 👏👏👏👏Hmmm, I shouldn’t be spurred on by that. 4K slow run today, but things are feeling better (apart from asthma putting in an appearance today). Maybe try for a sub 6 minute this week and see if I dare take the brakes off in week 5.
Not going to get anywhere near your times though...but hey we are not competitive!😊
Glad to hear you are feeling better. Do look after yourself and don’t do anything silly though 😇 Although I was faster last week, I felt somewhat nauseous this week. Might have been the Gordon’s Italian Lemon on Friday night I guess 😂 Not sure I can better last week’s time but we’ll see. Postponed 2nd Runniversary 10k to do first though.
Hi Roseabi, I forgot to post last week! It was slower than the week before at 8.21!! Not sure what happened but I felt like I was running in treacle!! So today I decided to go for it and ran my fastest 1k ever at 7.20. A bit silly in week three as I don’t think I’m ever going to beat that!!! I will try my best to next week but don’t hold your breath anyone!!! Happy running everyone and stay safe 🏃♂️🏃🏃♀️
I wasn’t happy with my attempt yesterday, which came out slower than last week, so I went out for another try this morning. I’m happy to report that my time was 6:12.
Well done!! Since your distance is so short, perhaps you would be better off waiting until towards the end of the week to post your result for that week?
Nearly forgot to let you know Roseabi’s, 5.26 in the usual place (3-4km mark) yesterday during my non-parkrun. Not as good as my previous time but I overcooked it earlier on and actually did a faster 1k of 5.12, which is very annoying. I must pace it better next week!
Hi Roseabi - last minute entry for me this week as I did a 10km virtual race at the start of the week and needed to take a few days recovery from that. So, just back from my 1km run and managed to squeeze a couple more seconds out to hit 3:56 which matches my pb 🙂
