How are you getting on? Any more RESULTS? Post 'em in the comments!
โ To clarify, the distance that you choose (1 mile, 1 km, or less) should ideally be on the same route for each run of the challenge. BUT I appreciate that this may not always be possible, so if you need to run somewhere else sometimes just try to pick routes that have roughly the same elevation profile, turnings, and obstacles (crossing paths etc.). It's all good! ๐๐๐
There's still time to join the Challenge - comment below! Here's a quick reminder of the rules:
โ PICK YOUR DISTANCE: 1 MILE, 1 KM, OR LESS - or 20 jumping jacks if you can't go outside to exercise.
โ RUN your chosen distance, or jump, AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!
โ POST THE TIME IT TOOK YOU TO RUN YOUR CHOSEN DISTANCE (in min:sec) HERE ON THIS POST IN THE COMMENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I will post WEEKLY (Tuesday) updates, and put all the results into my spreadsheet (calculating the changes in your running/jumping times from Week 1 in seconds) which you can view here:
Iโm going to have to pull out of this one sadly! Iโve been pulled in to help the NHS with a temporary call centre! First day was yesterday! I will be running but I wonโt be able to do this properly over the 5 weeks. I will try and do this at a later date when all returns to normal โค๏ธโค๏ธ
Thanks Roseabi xx Iโm so elated to help the NHS, possibly the best thing Iโve ever ever done! Calling vulnerable old folk making sure they will be ok for long term isolation โค๏ธ
Thanks roseabi I've worked out a 2 km route I can do every day (as long as we're permitted to exercise outside!) I'll give you best time I've achieved for the second km every week.
6:14 for my 1km segment, 9 seconds faster than last week. Kind of wishing I'd picked somewhere less hilly, but that's the downside (upside?) of running from home - it's all hilly!
That would need a gale rather than a stiffish breeze - I have gone quicker than 4'00" pace for 400m on a treadmill, but can't imagine it for a whole K without significant wind assistance. But there will be a gale before too long โฆ...
I didn't really do week 1 properly as I wanted to run 5K so just picked my fastest K which was 6:25...therefor it looks like I've had a massive improvement this week ๐ as I jogged a couple of K this morning until I got to a good spot (mainly flat, bit of down hill) and then went for it and managed 1K in 5:42.
I like this challenge, made me feel super speedy ๐๐
I did fast 200 m intervals today but it was too awkward to get going properly as so many things to look out for. It got on my wick I was going to run it afterwards but got hacked off so will do it on Wednesday Folks were all jockeying to avoid each other, but if you need to go into the road youโre dodging traffic too bah! ๐
It is! Also watching your footing too We need eyes in the back of our head Itโs strange isnโt it having to peer around a corner to see if someoneโs coming so you can swerve if needs be ๐
Obtained time of 16 mins 37 secs on my segment. 18 seconds less I think (on 2.09 km run distance) therefore circa 9 seconds per km faster. Not sure what I had for breakfast this time to make the difference!
I went out for my second attempt yesterday and shaved a bit more off on km #3 for 4:40.3 The snow they forecast did not materialize today so I got my 10k in this morn and found a nice little offshoot trail I never knew about for years of running it. This is what excites me now ๐๐
I saw a lass emerge from a street yesterday when Iโd seen her on the same path as me, made me wonder where sheโd emerged from ๐ค. So, going to check it out ๐ต๏ธโโ๏ธ ๐
mine had a historical plaque near it speaking to a family that used to own the land and the farmstead that once stood there. Not sure how long it went on for as I turned back around 1 km in.
Had a helping tailwind which, inspired by Lindaโs run earlier, helped me break through the 4.00 barrier today. New PB of 3.54 shaving 10 seconds off my PB. ๐
Thanks UTS. Itโs crazy. I knew I had more in there somewhere. Mind Iโm pretty sure that tail wind is what dipped me under 4.00. I wonder how Iโll get on next week if there isnโt one ๐ค
Ran a 8:18 mile today according to strava. Had to stop for 2 cars and I really think I could have made my goal of under 8 minutes if it wasnโt for them ๐ก. To top it all off my Garmin didnโt want to work so i had to record the run on my phone! Oh well thereโs always next week ๐
Just returned from my short run today so instead of being indecisive, I warmed up for 1k, the went all out for speed 2nd k and recorded 5โ 16โ which Iโm pleased with, then cooled down for last k.
Thank you Abi for giving me a heads up with your calculation.I was looking for the results of the Nov19 speed challenge.I intended to start where I finished.3:23 pace standing start for the 200m and 3:59 - 400m.I was going to start there but I am pleased Iโm forgetfull.๐๐
I have my eye on my prize,200 m,2:59 pace, 35 seconds, so 8 seconds to find.
No idea how to find that, not withstanding the excellent support you provide, thatโs a given, just go eye balls on stocks think of the forum and relax my face and smile through trying to finish strong.
5:18 PB for 1km, 20 secs faster than last week ๐๐ณ Different tack - 30 secs fast and 30 sec 10k pace for km 3 of 5. 400m PB and 1/2mile PB too. Yahoo!
Hi all! In the absence of any races and having been injured Jan/Feb I thought I had better have a go at this for some motivation ๐. Itโs the first time I have attempted 1k, and my pb was set at 3.56 when I ran the first 1k of my 5k pb a year ago. I managed 3.59.6 lastnight, but there was no way I could have done another 4k after that!! Pleased to have just scraped in under 4, and I now have a target to try and beat next week ๐
Better than last week. Chuffed with that. I would have gone faster had it not been for a slow moving group on the bridge, and a loose dog. Always a bleepin loose dog for goodness sake I thought for a second of jumping over it but didn't want to end up in Casualty again
Bit miffed as Nike Run Club gave me a pace of 4:29 but they're always more generous than Garmin. Sticking with Garmin for authenticity's sake
Did the same stretch of route as well. Going to stick with the bridge as it's more or less flat
I got an honourable mention from Smashrun again, so doing something right.
Feeling decidedly inferior with all these sub 5 and sub 4 minute kms ๐ข Still, I only managed a sub 30 5k a little over 6 months ago and I am 58! Mmm, so are many of you ๐
Hi Roseabi, did my 2nd week and managed to slightly improve on last week. My 1km time this week was 5.54 still happy with that. Roll on my next run. ๐
No PB for me today, but I'm still delighted with my time of 11:00 for the mile. Somebody called their ancient dog over and he trotted in front of me, reckon I lost a second or two there, and I lost count of the distance, I might have slowed down a little too early, but never mind, I'm happy!
