That was a hard run...

Finally got out and ran this morning with a friend of mine (I took a bit of persuading though)! I've been having a sore throat over the last few days and then it turned into a head cold when I woke up this morning, feeling very congested. So I only ran an easy-paced 2K this morning (I think 4K is a bit ambitious!). Well I say ran...I ran the first 1K and then walked up some hills and only ran when it was flat again! It's amazing how something as simple as a standard head cold can really affect your body when running!

In all honesty, I probably shouldn't have run today but I didn't run on Monday because of the frost so I had to fit on a run this week somewhere! Now it's back to bed for a few hours to rest before I start the rest of my day...

I honestly don’t know how anyone runs with a cold as I feel so pathetically terrible that I can just about hold a mug of tea. But if you can, then fresh air can work wonders.

I read once that a head cold can put extra pressure on the heart so we should take care when we have the sniffles.

Yes I also read that you shouldn't really run on the first day of your symptoms of a cold because your immune system is compromised with the head cold, and running long distances compromises it further so only run short and easy if you can. I also read about the neckline rule. If your symptoms are above your neckline then run slow and easy, and if your symptoms are below your neckline then don't run at all. It's just a useful gauge to know when to run or not. Here is a really useful video about it - youtu.be/MU3CXUtw7Xs

Well done for getting out there. Hopefully you'll kick this cold into touch and soon be back on track. In the meantime be kind to yourself!
